What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

Single book which I seem to remember has "Salamander" in the title.
A young man takes a position with a recluse, in a 'tower' (I seem to recall) where each day rooms can move around and corridors (dis)appear. There is a daughter in the household who holds a fascination for the main character.
