A couple of things to keep in mind:

✸ Communication is key. Please make sure to check in regularly with your team.

✸ Let your team know if it looks like you won't get your review posted by Wednesday/Saturday, 11:59pm. You do have all of Thursday/Sunday to submit your review, but it can be intensely frustrating for your captain if they don't know when or if they can expect your review before the deadline.

✸ If you know beforehand that you won't be able to read and review a book during a certain period of time, you can request a pre-arranged absence from me, either by posting the request in the discussion thread or by sending me a pm. The request has to be submitted before the team rolls for the time period in question, can only be approved by me as the mod in charge of running the game, and has to state a reason for the absence. (Reasons for pre-arranged absences can include e.g. going on vacation or work trips, planned hospital stays, exam period, etc.)

✸ If you do not have a pre-arranged absence and won't be able to finish your book in time for an unforeseen reason, please let your team know as soon as possible. If the team has earned the free pass, it can be used to cover the missing review. Without a free pass, the team has to sit out the next roll.

✸ We all know that real life gets in the way sometimes, be it through family emergencies, work emergencies, natural disasters, technical problems making it impossible to get online, or in other ways. That being said, please do keep in mind that this is a team challenge and your team relies on you to do your part unless an emergency occurs.

✸ If you find that the pressure of keeping up with the pace of the game gets too much for you or you wish to stop playing for any other reason, you can drop out of the challenge at any time. In that case, please let your team captain and/or me know that you wish to drop out rather than just disappearing without a word so your team won't be penalized when you fail to turn in your review. Thank you!

Captain's Handbook

✸ The team's captain is its chief organizer. This includes rolling the dice, posting the team's new spot to the team thread and the Post Your Spot thread, collecting links to team members' review posts in a single post to be linked in the Post Your Spot thread, doublechecking that books and review posts comply with requirements, reminding team members to post their reviews in time if necessary, etc.

✸ The captain may delegate some tasks, such as rolling and posting the new spot to the team thread, to another team member if they so choose. (Either a designated roller who fulfills this role for every roll, or whichever team member is online first once rolling is possible.) Collecting reviews into a single post and posting to the Post Your Spot thread should always be handled by the captain.

✸ Instead of having everything handled by a single team captain, teams can also choose two co-captains to handle the workload.

✸ Selection posts are not strictly required by the game's rules and I won't be checking for them. It's up to the team captain to decide whether they want them.

✸ If the team captain requests a pre-arranged absence, it's their responsibility to arrange for another team member to step in as temporary captain.

✸ The team captain is my primary point of contact for the team and should allow receiving private messages.

Krissy (krissystewart) | 3693 comments Hi team!! Can't wait to start playing again. I've missed the last few rounds. I have no preference for names so to keep it quick and easy I'll vote for KOA since you both like it. No point in dragging it out. Lol

Denise (destiny_chan) | 7414 comments Mod
Good to have you, Krissy!

So... no volunteers for captain then? I can do it if necessary, would need somebody else to roll on Sundays though (or you'll just have to wait until I can be bothered to crawl out of bed... XD).

message 12: by Krissy (new)

Krissy (krissystewart) | 3693 comments I don't mind being captain as long as you don't mind me doing the bare minimum 🤣 Like I'll roll and post when and where I need to but I won't be on here constantly cheering everyone on and replying instantly when there's a problem or question. That might take me a few hours or even a full day. Mainly because of my schedule. But if you'd rather not do it, Denise, then I will

message 13: by Denise, Manufacturing Director (new)

Denise (destiny_chan) | 7414 comments Mod
Would greatly prefer to have someone else handle the rolling and posting, my work/sleep schedule has shifted somewhat so the timing's become kinda inconvenient for me - I vote for you as captain!
As for the rest, I need to constantly be on here answering questions and whatnot anyway, so I can handle that part. 🤣

Review: I have really enjoyed this series so far. Some books more than others. This was one of my favorites. I loved Lance. A nerd in a bow tie is my romance trope kryptonite. I also enjoyed the setting (Shanghai). I wished we got more scenes around the city. It would have been nice to feel more like I was there. Kirt Graves did a great job with the audiobook narration. Awesome and unique story (hello! Dinosaur shifters!). Great side characters. Amazing narrator. 4 strong stars ❤️

Review:
The first in a trilogy, The King's Justice takes its reader to 1176 England, where court clerk Aelred Barling and Hugo Stanton, a messager soon turned assistant, are dispatched to the countryside to deal with what appears to be an open and shut murder case. Arriving at their destination, however, they soon find that there's a good deal more to this case than it first seems - and more brutal murders soon follow.

I always enjoy a good historical mystery, and this one definitely kept me guessing. I'll be back for the rest of the series.

Review:
Did I get lured into buying this by the adorable cover? Why yes, indeed I did.
On the whole, this was fairly cute. Predictable, but cute. If only I had cared more for the characters... Molly had her annoyingly judgmental moments, but I could relate to her to some extent. Alex, on the other hand, was absolutely insufferable on so many occasions that I repeatedly found myself thinking I wouldn't wish her on my worst enemy. The ending felt a little too abrupt.

I loved this book it was an absorbing story, there was plenty of intrigue and danger in the fore front or lurking in the background at all times The back and forth between the hero and heroine was sharp and funny and at times emotional, You will have a big smiile on your face when u finish this book

Review: It was just okay. The sister was barely tolerable. She was supposed to be endearing I guess but I couldn't stand her. MC2 was supposed to be clumsy and adorable but it all was very eye rolling. The sex scenes were just cringe. They would have full on conversations during the act. Not dirty talk but literal conversations. Then one scene they are going at it on the balcony and the stepmom jumped from her balcony to theirs because she thought MC1 was trying to murder MC2? They are both standing there completely naked dripping with spunk while she lectures them about suicide? It was supposed to have a romcom feel but all I felt was cringy and over it. Let's not forget that the MCs get married within 24 hours of becoming a couple. Just.... no

Review:
I adored this. Taking an obscure 13th Century poem and giving it a new (and vastly more satisfying) spin is a great concept - and wonderfully executed. While the tale begins with a fairly common trope - MC, born a girl, is raised as a boy because of, y'know, reasons - it develops into something quite unique. Following Silence as they slowly but surely discern the path they wish to follow in their life and gain a better understanding of who they are was a joy all the way through. I particularly loved the moment the pronouns used for them in the narration shifted from he/him to they/them so fluidly and naturally - perfectly done.
