Amanda Dawn | 1679 comments 4 I haven't read this time: which is great:

-the romantics
-crossfire
-time of indifference
- holder of the world

I'll either favor 1 of them or toss in votes for all for the randomizer depending on what other people are feeling.

message 3: by Pamela (new)

Pamela (bibliohound) | 592 comments I’ve read 16 of these. from Amanda’s list, I’d quite happily read The Romantics or Time of Indifference. I’d also read After the Quake as I have a copy already.

I love Murakami! I would be down for After the Quake. I could also go for Family Matters as I enjoy Rohinton.

message 5: by Pip (new)

Pip | 1822 comments I have read 24 of these, not counting those excluded for length. I have Family Matters on my shelf so will vote for that.

Excluding the excluded, I have read 20 of these and there are four on my TBR shelf:

- A Light Comedy (Mendoza)
- The Sound of Waves (Mishima)
- The Song of Solomon (Morrison)
- Pnin (Nabokov)

I'll keep my options opened at this stage.

message 7: by Gail (new)

Gail (gailifer) | 2173 comments I have read 20 of these, two in just the last two weeks. I have not read any of the ones on Amanda’s list but I have read After the Quake. I have not read Kafka on the Shore. I have not read Song of Solomon or Indifference. I think of all the ones already mentioned, I would vote for Family Matters but open to quite a few others so will wait a bit to decide

I’ve read 20 of these and I have no idea what I would like to read. Of the ones mentioned I probably would most like to go with Family Matters. I’ve read all of Morrison and they’re all great. I probably will feed the randomized.

message 9: by Rosemary (new)

Rosemary | 715 comments I've read 24. The only one I own unread is The Confusions of Young Torless, but I was planning to use that in the monthly keyword challenge. I've read Family Matters, all of H. Murakami, and all of Morrison except Sula. I haven't read any of Amanda's list.

I will probably check what's available at the library and feed the randomizer.

message 10: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Dawn | 1679 comments since Time of indifference has been. mentioned a couple times, I'll probably toss a few votes that way and fill the rest as randomizer slots.

I chose to feed the randomizer with what was available to me.

message 12: by Jane (new)

Jane | 369 comments I'm trying to decide where to put my points.

I'm interested in After the Quake, The Romantics, and The Holder of the World. Crossfire and Time of Indifference both seem interesting, but a little long. Also not opposed to any of the ones that have been mentioned.

I don't think I could handle Henry Miller or Palefire in my life right now (a plea to other voters). ;)

message 13: by George P. (last edited Feb 20, 2024 02:36PM) (new)

George P. | 725 comments I've read fourteen of these, (including Family Matters) so just 30%. The next book I've been planning to read is Mitford's The Pursuit of Love, coincidentally.
Murdoch's The Bell is high on my to-read list also.

I have a few others of these way down my list, one of which is Holder of the World, not yet read by the hyper-literary Amanda.

Regarding Murakami, I would prefer Kafka on the Shore; if I put a few votes on that perhaps Gail will also.

The winner of the popular vote was After the Quake and Under the Net nominated by Karen was the winner of the randomizer.

What will you be reading in April?

message 16: by Pamela (new)

Pamela (bibliohound) | 592 comments I will be reading After the Quake, I’ve already read Under the Net.

message 17: by Diane (new)

Diane Zwang | 1883 comments Mod
I keep getting confused on which Murakama I have read, luckily I did not vote. I have read After the Quake already. I am going to start our quarterly read Mason & Dixon in April plus TBR and monthly word.

message 18: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Dawn | 1679 comments I've read both, so if someone wants to do a buddy read of one of my 4 options, I'm down. If not, I'm good to chill and just read whatever I feel like for April :)

Kristel (kristelh) | 5131 comments Mod
I've read After the Quake too, so I will be reading Under the Net. I don't think I've read that one. I will work on TBR, Qrtly, and monthly word, like Diane.

Amanda wrote: "I've read both, so if someone wants to do a buddy read of one of my 4 options, I'm down. If not, I'm good to chill and just read whatever I feel like for April :)"

I could not locate any of those books, so I would not be participating in a buddy read but there were at 2 others that did vote for Time of Indifference so they might be willing to do a buddy read.

message 21: by Jane (new)

Jane | 369 comments I'm embarrassed to say that I've not read anything by either author, so I'm going to try to read both. 😳

message 22: by Pip (new)

Pip | 1822 comments Hurrah! I can use up two of my credits on Audible this month.

message 23: by Karen (new)

Karen | 422 comments I will be reading Iris Murdoch since I nominated it. So excited. I have not read a book by her in years.

message 24: by Gail (new)

Gail (gailifer) | 2173 comments I will be reading the Murdoch but I have read After the Quake.
I would be happy to do a buddy read of either The Sound of Waves or Time of Indifference.

message 25: by George P. (new)

George P. | 725 comments I've read one book by Murdoch and three by Murakami. So I will read Under the Net.
I was planning to read Murdoch's The Bell in a few months- might put that off a little then as I enjoy variety in authors.
If Amanda did a buddy read of Holder of the World I would read that also.

message 26: by Rosemary (last edited Feb 27, 2024 03:21PM) (new)

Rosemary | 715 comments I've read both selections. I will start Mason & Dixon and perhaps also the second part of Joseph and His Brothers in April.

I could also join in with a buddy read, any of those mentioned: The Holder of the World, The Time of Indifference, or The Sound of the Waves.
