Esther Kumo | 43 comments Hello Authors!

I’m Esther Kumo and I’m a beta reader. I love reading books because they have a way of giving me comfort and taking me into different worlds where I can view things from different perspectives, live different lives and have best friends from the books. Books are quite beautiful and in my opinion, they are one of the best gifts in life.

I love sharing my honest opinions and filling in the gaps/plot holes, and also giving my reviews on books.

As an author, you may think that paying for beta reading is a waste of time, but I can assure you that it’s not. For you to get quality feedbacks and reviews, to help your work become better, you should be prepared for paid services to beta readers.

You need beta readers as an author because they can elaborate and show you what has been missing with your work and give you the realest opinions. That’s why I’m here to give you those realest opinions, detailed reviews, ensure your readers are connected to your characters, and drop in-line comments while reading, also, constructive feedbacks are my specialty.

I charge affordable rates too!
You can reach me at kelkumo111@gmail.com

Esther is a great beta-reader.
I received in-line comments and a report for my first 36k words in only 3 days. Her feedback was so thorough and she gave me such important insight. Not only did she give really good technical feedback on punctuation etc but also on storytelling, flow, prose and how my characters where perceived.

She adapted really well to my genre and age category, she appreciated the humour in the narration and understood exactly the vibe I was going for. She puts skill and personality into her feedback which was really useful to see how readers would react to my manuscript.

I would definitely recommend her!

Kay Lea Chance (kayleachance) | 8 comments 93,450 pages in an erotic romance novel "Enmtrepeneneur." It is about a college sexually active woman studying to become a teacher, but afraid of commitment; after she entities an ex-coast guard sailor, he struggles to get her to commit. As they struggle, she becomes a stripper and he works undercover to bust a group of neo-nazis, trafficking young teens into becoming sex slaves.

Esther Kumo | 43 comments A testimonial from Kay:

“Esther was so amazing and I almost wanted to cry reading her feedback. Out of all the beta readers I had, she understood my story the most and gave me detailed feedback and earlier than quoted! She took her job seriously and I love her honest reader reactions and how she focused on the story versus grammar and spelling, though she did help me with a lot of typos! It felt genuine and her constructive criticism was valid plus helpful. It is scary reaching out to people to read your work, so when she genuinely seemed to enjoy my story it made me feel encouraged to keep going instead of giving up like I have been wanting to several times. I think that is the sign of a great beta reader; one that is honest and doesn't sugarcoat yet can still make you feel good about your story. She gave me a lot more positives than negatives and the positives have helped me understand how to work on the negatives."

Kay Lea Chance (kayleachance) | 8 comments What a helpful shot in the arm Esther gave to me on my erotic romance novel "Entrepreneur: Are You Going Too Far? She thoroughly went through my 94K word love story, which doubled into a novel in which the characters infiltrated a neo-nazi child trafficking group. Esther's feedback showed me she read it all, pointed out where changes needed to be made, and gave me feedback I needed to believe I was not wasting my time. She gave positive feedback on what others might have called wasted secondary characters. Her comments were helpful and let me realize that my writing was not wasted time! I will incorporate her suggestions, and off to publishing, I will go!

Teylor | 4 comments Hello! I just wanted to praise Esther for excellent service. Not only did she provide amazing feedback and criticism, but she completed it in a timely manner even finishing before the deadline. She takes her time to really read the story and provides such good reader reaction. Esther annotates and goes into deeper detail by breaking down the characters, plot, and narrative. She also answers any questions you might have about your own storytelling. Esther definitely makes you want to continue writing and improving, but above all she feels like your biggest fan-she just gets it! I never had a beta reader before and this experience was beyond my expectations.

She was very responsive to my outreach request to coordinate working together, and returned my manuscript in a timely manner (10 days) with a very detailed analysis of my story. I appreciated how Esther made notes throughout her reading so that I could glean a perspective of how it was to experience the plot as it unfolded. Esther helped me identify some of my weak spots with pacing and genre definition.
Thank you Esther!

Esther Kumo | 43 comments Hi Authors!

Do you want a beta reader that takes you on the journey of your story and tells you her thoughts as she journeys through the story? Where she might have wrong guesses because the answer/exposition is in future chapters so you have to watch and follow through her journey until she figures the answer for herself while you feel amused? That’s me. You get to journey with me from start to finish.

Do you want a beta reader that would give you an insightful perspective and is pretty honest? You have found the right person. My reactions are honest and so are my emotions that are exposed when reading a book.

I’ll give you my thoughts on the pacing (sometimes, you might think your pacing is just right, but it might be way too fast for the reader to comprehend. I can work on that for you).

I’ll also give my thoughts on the characters (both minor and major characters, giving you feedback on those character arcs or motivations you might’ve missed out on, and also tell you deeply about their personalities from the readers point of view).

How’s the suspense and tension in the story? Are they up to par? Is there something that feels missing there? Does it grip the readers in the right way it should? I’ll let you know how your suspense and tension works out for your readers.

You can reach out to me with my email- kelkumo111@gmail.com.

I have four slots left for the month, bring in your manuscripts let’s work together!

I look forward to working with you!

James Hadley-Grave | 18 comments ANYONE WANTING TO KNOW WHETHER TO USE ESTHER AS A BETA READER READ BELOW!!!

I cannot recommend her enough. I just had a round of 10 beta readers (a mixture of paid and volunteers) and by far her in depth feedback outshined the others.

She comments along side of the manuscript so you can see her reactions in "real time". She also "brain dumps" her feelings and thoughts after every 5 chapters which helped me hugely as I got a sense of my readers raw emotions and questions throughout the story.

She also provides an in depth analysis of the characters, plot, world building and pacing. I gave all my beta readers a questionnaire and she answered these questions in depth.

She really does go "all in" and I was blown away by her work.

I am confident that her feedback has brought my manuscript a big step closer to getting published.

Thank you so much Esther <3

message 19: by Kassie (new)

Kassie | 10 comments When I first came across Esther’s post, I had already hired some beta readers, but something told me to contact her anyway. And from the first email I sent, I knew there was a reason my gut told me to contact her. Simply put, she’s one of the best beta readers I had the pleasure of working with. Out of my first round of beta readers, she’s the only beta reader I re-hired and I really want other authors to hire her too, because you’ll be getting such an amazing reader who will strengthen your manuscript and who doesn’t slack off.

Her first email to me was not only fast, but very enthusiastic and nice. It eased my fear of using beta readers, and I smiled after being so terrified. When I received my report and notes back, I was shocked by how early she had sent it to me. She got it done fast, but unlike some beta readers I’ve encountered in this group, I can tell she actually read it and didn’t skim and try to give choppy feedback to make it look like she did. She gave so many in-line comments that documented how she reacted as a reader, not an editor, which was so helpful. I laughed and smiled at so many of her comments. But what amazed me even further is how she gave her thoughts on the book as she read it AND did in-line comments at the same time. I honestly got phantom hands cramps reading all her notes because she was going into so much detail I couldn’t imagine how long she was staring at her screen and typing! Her notes totaled about twenty pages and she didn’t even charge as much as others who gave me less feedback and in-line comments. But that’s why she needs to be hired; she goes into a lot of detail during the read and then AFTER the read too! She gave me notes on the plot, pace, characters, ending, etc. She examined the manuscript from all angles. And what I really love is she gave me her perspective and thoughts instead of trying to “fix” my story. Even when she was confused or didn’t like something, she did it in a reader’s way instead of trying to say, “you should do this instead.” In my opinion, and as a reader myself, readers don’t pick up books from the store and read them looking for ways to fix the story, so beta readers shouldn’t do that either. They should read it like they bought it. Esther did that and gave so many comments. It really impressed me.

Her in-line comments were amazing. When she had strong feelings after a character did something, she wrote it out and gave paragraphs of her thoughts and emotions, but that’s what I wanted! She was getting into the story and responding in real time. I re-read her notes over and over because they helped me a lot with my weaknesses. And she answers all my follow up emails and questions. She also gives in-depth answers to beta questions I asked her and is always professional and kind in her responses.

She also impressed me with how much she remembered my characters, plot points, and story long after she read it. It made me feel like she takes her job seriously but also has a strong passion for reading. She also was so open-minded and adapted to my non-western story structure and read an article i sent her. That meant so much to me as someone who was so terrified to send out something readers may not be used to. She took it on with respect and consideration and offers me so much support even after she was done with my manuscript.

Please hire her if you want high-quality feedback that gives you an excellent reader’s reaction and report. I really think authors would benefit from working with Esther and she is getting an acknowledgement in my book for her hard work and support.

Luke Simmons | 2 comments This is my first comment here in general and for Esther in particular who I met on X/Twitter. I recently completed my novel, "Snap Zasperate & The Man of Gold", a throwback/homage to the classic pulps of the 1930s and 40s with a modern twist of cartoon logic akin to Ric and Morty, Adventure Time, SpongeBob Squarepants, etc.

Enough about the setup, what about Esther? Well, she did a fantastic job, providing me with in-text commentary and a short review/essay of the overall novel! Even though I'm really happy and excited she enjoyed it, I would have still appreciated her feedback if it had been negative, because she was so incredibly helpful! She had never read pulp fiction before and found it very fast paced and chaotic, but that is the nature of a pulp story, it's nonstop action with little room to breathe, plus she caught onto the "cartoon logic" of it right away, so I'm so happy to have gotten this feedback knowing my initial foray into this writing style worked! I was so nervous sending it off to a stranger, but she is SO HELPFUL and SO KIND, my confidence has been greatly boosted and I feel like I can write stories that appeal to a huge audience now!

Thank you so very much, Esther, you really made my month! Your feedback and enthusiasm really honors me, and I hope to utilize your services again! Anyone looking for a solid beta reader, Esther is your gal! Hire her!

Nathaniel Sandberg | 3 comments Esther was a great beta reader. She turned the work around remarkably fast. She provided inline comments to give her initial reaction to portions of the text. She also provided a 19 page report complete with chapter and character analysis. I was really impressed that someone could be so thorough in such a short amount of time. After I do some editing based on her comments, I'm definitely considering asking for a second review.

Nichol DeCastra | 1 comments I hired Esther to be a Beta reader for my WIP, Chrysalis and Whips, and she did a great job. She commented on the work document itself and then gave me a more in-depth written report. She went over the chapters in groups and highlighted the best and worst parts. Then, she went over the main characters that appeared in the book and talked about their good and bad parts. After that, she talked about the plot.

Rose (rosepetals1984) | 1 comments Hi all, I'm Rose, also known as T.A. Summers in circles, I wanted to share feedback since Esther beta read a YA Urban Fantasy that I wrote this past year.

Esther's beta read, report and feedback were exactly the right balance I was looking for - friendly, enthusiastic, engaged/attentive to details in the narrative, helpful in spaces where details didn't make sense and needed a bit more tweaking. Very fast turn around time in terms of feedback and summary. I would eagerly request her services again and recommend her to those looking for a beta reader who provides great, encouraging writing feedback with a keen reader's touch.

message 25: by Chance (new)

Chance Dillon | 2 comments Esther absolutely crushed the set date faster than I thought possible. I had a relatively large word count (221k) and she tore through it, following the story from plot point to plot point and when things didn’t feel right or felt rushed, she was sure to point it out. I absolutely recommend Esther to any author looking to improve their story from point A to point Z.

message 26: by Renee (new)

Renee | 3 comments Esther was an absolute pleasure to work with on my novel's first beta read. She provided the level of critique and encouragement I needed to inspire me to keep working to improve and complete my journey. Both her in-line feedback and her report provided such valuable, honest insight to the reader's POV. I highly recommend working with Esther to energize your creative process!

message 27: by Alexa (new)

Alexa Kei (alexa_kei) | 31 comments I loved how easy and painless it was to work with Esther. She was quick with the turnaround time and provided me with a lot of feedback as well as emotions and reactions. I got a glimpse at how readers will react to the story and it was exactly what I needed to know where and what to tweak in the next edit.

Can't thank her enough for giving me the motivation to push forward and solidifying my thoughts about the issues in my manuscript (meaning I do need to fix them and I will).

message 28: by Marisa (new)

Marisa | 1 comments I want to add my voice to Esther's praise. We just started a beta reader/author relationship and it was a delight working with her. Her feedback is clear and concise. I loved how she commented on the chapters and her reactions. It was very helpful to get an honest reaction to my story the way a reader would see it and not an editor. She's timely, relatable and super easy to work with. I have nothing but good things to say about the experience. Highly recommend!

Donald Schmit | 4 comments Hi ,
I've written a new age/spiritual novel titled "Who Am I?"
It's a 68,000-word fiction piece about a girl who comes of age and becomes a spiritual teacher.
The book is divided into three parts: the first two are an easy read, while Part III delves into more philosophical topics.
What do you charge and what is your timeline.
Can you send me an idea of how you offer feedback?
Do you delve into new age spiritual subjects?
Regards,
Don

Esther Kumo | 43 comments Hi
I would really love to read this story, and I’ll be honest, in as much as I’ve read a lot of genres, I’ve not really read a spiritual novel, and yours would be my first, but I’m really looking forward to it, and would like to delve into this new path.

The turnaround time would be two weeks (although, it might be earlier than that).

I usually give my feedback as I journey through the story, so after every few chapters, you get a feedback on them, and sometimes, I rant while writing the report, I’ll also give my feedback on the characters, pacing, tension and suspense, my overall thoughts after reading and a full reader’s experience, with emotions and all.

I just saw your mail, but I didn’t want to leave your questions unanswered here.

Esther Kumo | 43 comments Hello Authors!!

It’s a new month and I should tell you that I have slots available for both November and December, so send me an email let’s work together and have fun with it.

My rates are affordable, my offers never change, and you will definitely journey through the book with me while I read and know every thought in my head while I read, feedback on characters, worldbuilding, pacing, suspense and tension, my after thought of the story is always there, and I give some observations I have while reading.

A lot of authors I’ve worked with commend me for sending excited mails when I’m so engrossed in their stories and they happen to like it a lot, so if you like that, I send rants and would leave you smiling or laughing or even contemplating before I send my report, and all the while, giving an in-depth feedback on the story. So I have fun while reading and writing the manuscript and report, and you also have fun while reading my report.

So let’s work together!

Anthony Prescott | 3 comments Let me tell you all about Esther!

She’s probably the best beta reader I’ve ever had the opportunity to work with, and trust me, I’ve worked with a lot. She’s so good at what she does, and her rates are very reasonable too for her services.

She helped me so much with my work that I didn’t believe how good it was and she showed me those areas that I was lacking in and helped me out! She’s funny, she’ll encourage you, she gives you a REPORT. I know she’s supposed to give a report, but she’s very detailed and you can literally see how she thinks while reading her report and she has such a fun mind. I had to journey through the whole story with her, which was beautiful and intriguing- watching how a reader digests your story.

Whatever you need, she’s there to help out. Ask her a bunch of questions about your manuscript and you see her answering them carefully. She gave me such a good beta feedback to be honest. You need to work with her to understand what I mean. Her feedback on the pacing, my characters, etc was also what I really needed.

I still have a lot more to say, but I’ll leave this here. I highly, highly recommend Esther. She’s probably one of the best out there.

message 43: by Youkhana (new)

Youkhana | 4 comments I have to say that Esther is one of the most reliable beta readers I have ever worked with. She's a fast reader; brilliant, funny, honest, and has a good eye for drama.

I reached out to her via email to review my two part YA story and she responded in no less than two minutes agreeing to do the work. When I tell you Esther is precise, I mean it. She dissected both parts of the story with a chapter by chapter review, pointing out the twists, suspense, humour, links between my main and side characters and how their respective developments seemed to affect the plot as a whole; she reacted to both parts of the book as if she were a very thrilled audience, but was also concentrated enough to point out where the stories were lacking. Esther reacts to what she reads as if she's watching a very interesting movie, she reads with an open mind and with the enthusiasm of a big fan, and I cannot say how much that means to me because it encouraged me a great deal.

I also have to apologize for upsetting her with how most of the characters turned out because she was ranting nonstop about that in her report, yet she assured me that my choices were necessary for the story moving forward. I am very pleased to have worked with such an effective, supportive and honest beta reader such as Esther.

For anyone in search of a beta reader to hold your hand and walk you through your own story whilst pointing out factors you didn't even realize were there, I recommend that you please hire this wonderful beta reader. She is devoted to highlighting both the weaknesses and strengths in your manuscript, and helping you improve them without sugarcoating.

Thank you, Esther.

Esther Kumo | 43 comments Hello Authors!

Happy new year!
I hope you had a wonderful holiday.

It’s been a while, but I’m back!

Let’s work together on your manuscript and have fun while doing it.

You can ask me any extra questions or concerns you might have about your manuscript and while I read, I’ll take note of them and give you a honest response.

You can always trust me with your manuscript and I make sure to make you feel comfortable enough while reading my report so you feel like a friend is working with you on it. And trust that if I have some confusions about some events or anything in the manuscript, I won’t bother hiding it since there would be a possibility of other readers being confused about the same thing, so I’ll let you know to help clarify.

You need to know how your readers would feel while reading your story? The emotions certain events or situations may ignite? Well, you’re with the right person then. My report contains the emotions I feel too while reading the story, after all, I’ll give you feedback after every two chapters so you’ll know every thought I have while reading.

You’ll get feedback on the characters, the pacing, world building, tension and suspense, etc.

I also take on partial manuscripts. Your manuscript doesn’t need to be complete and if you want a feedback on what you’ve written so far, you can always reach out to me.

Genres I beta read? I read mostly everything except horror, so you can bring in your romance, thriller, action, crime, fantasy, sci-fi, etc.

Anthony Prescott | 3 comments I reached out to Esther again for my short story, and she didn’t disappoint at all!

She didn’t tell me to leave a second review, but I needed to leave one for her. She’s so good at what she does, and will give you exactly what you need and will notice what you didn’t. She makes you feel like a friend reading my work as she advertised.

I’ll recommend her any time to any authors looking for beta readers.

Stephen Bentley (hellno) | 14 comments I have now used Esther for a second time as a trusted beta reader, and my gosh, she was absolutely terrific.

I love the way she writes her report in a chapter by chapter fashion just as if she is typing her thoughts as she reads the book. As an author, it gives me invaluable insight into a reader's mind.

Then she tops it all off by a systematic slew of helpful comments in the Word document.

What can I say? I am delighted with Esther's input.
