Hi all,

We've almost reached the end of February, and also the beginning of Spring!

Which leads us to our 2nd group read of the year... The Hunter.

This is the latest mystery/police procedure by Tana French set in Ireland and will be released on 5 March.

Happy Reading!

Solid addition to the Tana French cannon.

"The Hunter" features retired Chicago detective Cal Hooper (#2), set in the same Irish countryside as "The Searcher". The author adapts the story to the setting; the rural environment - and even the atypical hot weather - act as extra characters in the story.

While the setting remains Ireland, the pace and tone feel like an American Western with the backdrop of small town justice, an outsider and a man's code. Yes, there is even a Dublin based murder detective, although not connected to the earlier series.

Intriguing plot, working in parallel on alternative threads that mixes “good” and “bad” characters, each with their own objectives. Per usual, the book is character driven. The story plays out gradually, and not rushed. Slow and deliberate, like the heat. Unlike earlier books, this one is a more traditional sequel with important plot lines tied to its predecessor. 4.5 rounded up.

NB - my only issue with the book is the title, which could have been stronger.

My first Tana French book (Finally!). This is actually a sequel of ‘The Searcher’ if you want to read it in order… it’s well written with a few weird twists and slower pace than my usual read. Overall 4.5 round up to 5 stars. Question: why is the book called “The Hunter”?

A very satisfying sequel, which I'm sure will be just as satisfying when read as a standalone book.

Tana French is a master in recreating the atmospheric environment of a small Irish town, and characters who you find both 'everyday' but intriguing, which also tied in perfectly with the story.

Five Stars.
