In Boston, Grace takes a walk and gets lost. She seems to space out when she’s “thinking” or “writing” music in her head and forget about time and place. A man collapses in her arms after pushing his gun in her hands. When another man fires at them, she shoots him right between the eyes and kills him. Did you wonder how she became such a good shot? A young officer handcuffs her as the crowd demands he release her. Why do they become her protectors? Why are strangers repeatedly drawn to Grace, and how is it woven into the storyline?

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments First off, I think walking around the city while writing music in your head which causes you to not pay attention to your surroundings or even where you are at is just dumb. This girl needs a keeper. And, of course, she's a crack shot. I assume she has been taught how to shoot a gun, but I don't remember if that was addressed in the book.

The cop taking her in for questioning makes sense. The crowd standing up for her would only go so far. They might tell the cop what they saw and say she saved the guys life, but I don't think they would protest like they did. I don't understand all of these strangers being drawn to Isabel and spilling their guts to her all of the time.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I have a little spacey problem, but I don't walk around while doing it. I can relate, though; I would not allow myself to space out enough to get lost in an unknown area. It is an interesting concept for a character.

The story mentions that someone trained her. I can't look it up because it was a library book. For some reason, I didn't retain that information.

That "gang" mentality happens in areas where the police aren't trusted. They saw her save a man and wanted to protect her from the cops. Regardless, they were going to take her in for questioning. It is the procedure.

I believe it's said that Dylan trained her when trying to teach her self-defense at some point. I know there are people who get lost in their head and I guess that's what Garwood was going for here. It seems to be carried to the extreme with this character though.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments I understand getting lost in a new city, I did the same thing years ago in San Francisco, but when I got into a sketchy area, I realized this wasn't a good place to be. Isabel had a rude awakening to her surroundings when the man is shot and ends up in her arms.

Dylan, aware of her spacey problem taught her to shoot and how to defend herself and it saved her life and the man's life here. I thought it was great that the crowd wanted to protect her, the cop was a tad aggressive toward her.

Isabel has a gift. I don't have a rational reason who strangers want to spill their guts to her all the time.

Jessica | 156 comments "Of course, she's a crack shot". That made me laugh Robin. I felt like every time I turned around, Isabelle was the epitome of perfection at this or that. It was so ridiculous.

Not going to lie, I do space out sometimes, usually in my home or at my desk though. I think Garwood taking this to the extreme using an aimless walk in a strange town was an attempt at humor. It didn't work for me.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments Yes, it seemed like the author just kept pointing out how perfect this woman was.
