Clive Harcus claims to be the legitimate son of Compton MacKenna and the rightful heir and refuses to give up Glen MacKenna. His mother, Freya Harcus, claims to have had an affair with Compton. What were your early thoughts about this pair? Were they on your suspect list? Did you suspect Freya? Why or why not?

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments Clive was on my suspect list. I figured he hired the guys who were trying to kill Grace. I really didn't think much about Freya. I figured she was just an over-protective mother.

I didn't buy their story. They could have got DNA tests to prove their statement, but they didn't. My question was why did people believe him at all? Or did he just intimidate the whole town?

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I didn't buy the story either. Clive was on my list. It felt like an opportunity for fraud. Like Robin, it would be easy to prove paternity. Clive is a big bully.

Clive was also on my list, not his mother. But Clive was a bully and he intimidated the town's people so they didn't question him or his right. Freya came out off left field as the culprit imo. I honestly didn't make the connection with her.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments Clive was on my list too, but I didn't think he had the money to fund a hit on Isabel in America. Freya didn't even register with me.

Jessica | 156 comments I did not suspect Freya either. This was not my favorite book in the series but I give Garwood props for surprising me on that one.
