It's true. I love food. I guess that's why I love it when Matthew and Diana invite one another to dinner. I would swoon if a date served me oysters and a delicious stew, "veal, fixed with apples and a bit of cream."

Feeding a vampire, however, is a bit more challenging. What would you feed Matthew--or Marcus or Miriam or Gallowglass (who we'll meet in the next book)--if you were expecting him or her for dinner?

Michelle | 8 comments Since I'm not much of a cook, but love to bake, so I would have to say I would make candied pecans, walnuts, or almonds! They are my favorite and make your house smell delicious and home-y.

That's a terrific choice. After all, doesn't Marcus go wild for the smell of something fresh baked, but is disappointed by the taste? I can't quite remember what it is. Can anyone out there remind me?

In ch 39...It was chocolate chip cookies! Em ended up giving him some vanilla/sugar walnuts instead.

Thanks, Lisa. It would be tough to have to give up chocolate chip cookies for eternity!

Deborah | 15 comments I'd share a mug of my favorite drinks that I thought had been my own strange brew until reading Chapter 11:
Put 1 heaping TBS of Nestle Toll House cocoa in a mug
Pour boiling water
Stir (optional: sprinkle in cinnamon)

Yes, it is "bitter and thick" but it's a great way to get the benefit of cacao without the fat and calories!

Cherie M. | 2 comments For Marcus's sweet tooth, I might try roasted chestnuts lightly sprinkled with cocoa powder and coarse sugar.

Melissa | 51 comments I would definitely go the nuts and rare meat route... but the wine, oh yes!!!

Ohhh, I love the way Deb describes the wines! I could practically taste the Chateau Yquem when Diana made the first meal for Matthew! Yum! By the way, I love the way Diana put her foot in her mouth not once but twice when it comes to vampire diets. In the café, when M said tea wasn't his drink, she asked him what was. Duh! Then again at the dinner she made for him, while pondering the wine they were drinking, she wondered aloud what she would taste like! I laughed the minute I read both of these because I knew M would get so mad, even before I read his reaction. So funny!

It's been a while since Deb's contributed to it, but her wine blog is still online for all us budget oenophiles. I'm sure that some of her recommendations are still available!
