Lucas finds himself inexplicably attracted to Lily Rothenburg, who is completely different from his typical type. What was it about her that drew him to her? Why was he willing to destroy his relationship with Jennifer? Did she encourage it by refusing to marry him, going out on a platonic date or saw him clearly? Did her refusal to make time to see him after Billy Hood almost killed him make a difference? Or, is this just Lucas?

Susan (cruelshoes) | 158 comments I think it is just Lucas being Lucas. He tries to tell himself Lily is not his type, but any female is his type and as he says he is addicted. I also blame Lily for not putting up a better fight. Lucas is self-destructive which is why he destroyed any relationship he would have had with Jennifer. He says he loves her, but love is not doing what he does.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments Lily was a challenge. She played uninterested, but she was sending out vibes. I'm not a Jennifer fan, and I'm not a Lily fan. Neither one respects themselves nor their partners enough to be loyal.

I don't remember the book, so I think this is a paraphrase from several In Death books. Eve always says stay or go, but don't cheat. Marriage/relationships are hard, but cheating doesn't solve anything.

Lucas is attracted to women who aren't loyal, although Lily pulls Lucas to her more than the other women he plays with. I wonder if the fact that she was married to a good man added to the challenge and the attraction.
