Our second classic read of 2024 is Danilo Kiš's The Encyclopedia of the Dead

Apart from Armin, who suggested this title, and me who would like to read Danilo Kiš everybody else is of course invited to also share their thoughts!

What made you want to read this collection of stories? What are your thoughts about the different stories? The presentation of the character(s)? The atmosphere?

I think it was quite good. I mean, every book with short stories has some good, and some bad short stories, but I think that here most of them were good. My favorite was "The Book of Kings and Fools" which inspired me to read the "Dialogue in Hell Between Machiavelli and Montesquieu" (which I haven't finished yet).
Also, when reading this book, I noticed that Kiš is not a conventional writer, but you could see that he was very influenced by Borges.

Armin, thanks for your comment. I'm pretty behind everything at the moment, but there is hope at the horizon:-)
So far, I have not read anything from our selected titles form Serbia, as my library does not have any title by Kis which is rather telling ..
I picked up Balkan Bombshells from my local bookshop have ordered the Encyclopedia - I am looking forward to its style (I like Borges!).
