Christopher Quick | 3 comments Let's just say, hypothetically, I had a friend who was trying his hand at comical/satirical work... And say he wanted to, you know, put the word out that he had a tongue-in-cheek space novella coming out-- Not that he thinks it's any good! Lord no, only his wife thinks he's funny and she HAS to laugh at his jokes because she sleeps with him. But lets say all that's true, what advice would you have for my friend to promote his work without coming off like a self absorbed, grandeur-deluded, uh, self-promoting douche?

He really wants to avoid that, its very important to him.

Thanks

Denny Darke | 4 comments Hi Christopher! I would encourage ‘your friend’ to ensure the novella is well edited and has a decent cover. Then, I’d advise ‘your friend’ to send it to a few beta readers (that enjoy that genre of writing) to obtain constructive feedback. Publish. I enjoy writing humour, and it feels like such a risk (will other folk like it etc.) However, if what I write makes me laugh, making others giggle is a bonus.
Kindle U is useful as it gives one the opportunity to read a number of books, without going bankrupt.

BTW, two of my children think I’m hilarious; the other two tolerate their quirky father. Go for it, Chris. Authors of humour/satire should support each other.
