Been clicking through all the BR links for this same reason. Don't want to be the first one to start and now I don't have to, yay!
I'm curious--one recurring... gag? maybe? in this series is (view spoiler) I actually found this kinda jarring and annoying, but I'm curious what others think... also curious to find if I still find it so on a reread. Not really spoilery but putting it in spoilers just in case.

It’s not my favorite part of the “lore” but I don’t mind it that much

Answering your question. Spoiler for the series. Rereaders only(view spoiler)

I'm through Chapter 13 now, and mostly just floating and enjoying. (view spoiler)

So far I think this book has good characterization. I’m not remembering names but based on how people are acting and what they are saying, I know who they are.

I loled at “Sam is the God Killer and Mark is the slave dude”. The names are def easier to remember as you get used to them. I have this issue a lot with audiobooking fantasy books and keeping the characters straight.

I thought the God Killer was named Rafe? Ugh, I definitely need to look at a character list!! Looking for that list...
Typing up a little list for reference, some spoilers for first half of book or so: (view spoiler)

Um... that is sarcasm, right? I'm not very good at telling... I mean... (view spoiler)

And I also laughed at that tree quote. I really like that character. That girl with the wolf. I also like when her and the other lady have conversations and she keeps getting confused about when to use I and Me.

LOL ditto! I love how Suri says "are you sure?" My students ask me that sometimes on language things and I'm like "um... yes. You're doing it wrong. Me and my 30+ years of experience are very sure."
I also appreciate your perspective on the mother-aspect in the book... I was focusing too much on the death and not enough on the feelings...

Those little bits make rereading such a treasure.

Just brace yourself for some strong mother stuff.

I think in a lot of books or movies, writers think making a strong female character is just making a woman act like a man or making a woman a Mary Sue. Women are different than Men and exhibit strength in different ways. I felt like the women in this book were strong female characters because they were not interchangeable with our male characters. And, sometimes female characters are stereotypes of women instead of real women. These woman are also not interchangeable with each other. The characterization is excellent in this book because each character had its own voice. Like is said earlier, I couldn’t ever remember anybody’s name but I could always tell who I was reading about based on what they said, how they said it and what they did and how they did it.

Yes this! This book has great female characters who are female and great. It isn't just a rewrite of men roles.
I'm half way through and my god I forgot how much I absolutely loved Raith. He was legit my book boyfriend for a while. Series spoiler(view spoiler)
This is my first reread of this series and boy am I catching a lot. He wrote the whole series before he got it published so the whole thing makes sense and is lacking the on-the-fly plot holes of a series written as you go (I'm looking at you ACOTAR) and you can really tell in the foreshadowing and small character reactions to certain things.

Agree. I remember being lukewarm on the series the first read through--these definitely age even better with reread.

Same. I liked the book the first time but I didn't love it as much as I do now. I think it was because I missed Royce and Hadrian. But the foreshadowing and easter eggs are absolutely doing it for me.

Thanks! I can't seem to escape that particular theme. I think it might be a more common thing people write about than I realized before now!
