I've heard a lot of great things about this! Anybody started it yet? Who's planning on reading it this month?

message 2: by Elsie (new) - added it

Elsie Marie | 1 comments I am planning to read the book starting this evening!

Story (storyheart) I read it in December...hope I'll remember enough of it to participate.

Catherine (catherinelf) I finished this a few days ago. I loved it! I can't wait to discuss.

My copy's waiting for me at the library, although I won't be able to go pick it up until Monday.

Taylor (seffietay) I loved this book!!! It was eerily plausible and had a lot more heart than your run of the mill apocalypse story. Also the author grew up on a small island very close to where I live and it was nice to see it used as a setting in some capacity as this area isn't usually used in popular fiction.

I just started this and, just wow! The gut-punch of that text message towards the end of the first chapter, and then the final paragraph of chapter 2! This woman can write! The tension is amazing!

I am enjoying this so much! It's a work of art, like watching a symphony unfold (alright terrible simile, but something like that!). I can't put it down, but I don't want it to end, and I'm fascinated with where it will go next.

This is absolutely, exquisitely beautiful. I really admire the structure of it - fascinating how she can be all over the place, and yet have it totally work.

Catherine (catherinelf) I agree. My favorite part about the novel is how it keeps coming back to moments in time before the flu and connecting them to the future world. It is all over the place but it's so skillfully written that the narrative isn't jarring at all, it just flows.

Taylor (seffietay) Totally agree with Catherine, it flows in a really masterful way.

How far is everyone? I finished it in a day or so, it was so captivating. I loved the inclusion of the graphic novel but was hoping for more... does anyone think there will be a follow up novel?? I smell series!

I just finished it. Wow! That bit towards the end, weaving in the tower with the other vignettes - I was sitting in a Starbucks in tears reading that! It didn't really hit me until that point just what an (view spoiler) Absolutely loved it!

This just won the 2015 Arthur C. Clarke Award for best science fiction novel of the year!

I'm just now rereading this, and enjoying it even more than I did the first time. As I was reading this, and reading about the graphic novel and the intense reaction it provokes in many of the characters, I was reminded of my own intense reaction to another graphic novel, Wander. Not the same, at all, except for the way the plot slowly unfolds and my willingness to just stare for ages at the artwork. Really worth taking a look at!
