Gwen monitors the comments and people harassing her on the internet and the newspaper daily. She calls this the Sicko Patrol. Is this diligence necessary or part of her paranoia (rational or otherwise)? What effect does this have on her? Her children?

It's only paranoia if someone isn't out to get you. She had good reason to be cautious. It wasn't helping her or her kids in their goal to live a normal life.

I don't know what good monitoring does, unless she stumbles on to that one person who has figured out where she is. It sounded like most of the stuff she was finding was threats against them and sadistic pictures with her kids faces pasted on to them.

I understood why she had to sift through the muck but this takes a toll over time. I felt bad for her.
