Elisabeth (Bets) (livingforjesus) | 1194 comments What's that time period in history that you always love to read about?

For me it's the Underground Railroad and WWII. But especially WWII. When I see a book set in it I instantly add it to my TBR and it's one I really want to read. I don't know why but it feels like I can't get enough of that time period. lol. What part of History is that for you?

BooksNCrannies (booksncranniesofficial) | 552 comments For me it would be these time periods: WWII (I love this time period, too!), WWI, and the American Civil War. Now and then I also enjoy a book set in ancient Rome or Britain.

Elisabeth (Bets) (livingforjesus) | 1194 comments Yeah I haven’t read much WWI at all. I have enjoyed the ones I’ve read tho.

Ann Stanley I can't just pick one, but my favorites are WW2, WW1 and Edwardian (think Anne of Green Gables).

Ellie Ann | 28 comments I really like WW2 and western expansion, with some colonial added in. I will also say that colonial is more nonfiction than fiction XP

message 6: by Emily (new)

Emily Reed My go to time period depends on the country the book is based in!

America- WWII/ 1800s
England/United Kingdoms- 1700s
Germany & France - 1500s
Japan/Korea/China- anything from the 1800s and later

Biblical times
Regency Era
Revolutionary War
Civil War
Gilded Age
Edwardian Era
WW2

Becky Harris (rlharris) | 17 comments Medieval for me because deep down, I'm a fantasy reader but I also like low fantasy with less magic and stuff so medieval feels sort of like fantasy. But I'll read just about anything. :)

Same lol. Except I haven't actually read a lot of medieval fiction.

Tbh, I love anything set during a war, as long as it's not just a romance with the war as a backdrop. Those CAN be good, but I like action in my books. ;)

Elisabeth (Bets) (livingforjesus) | 1194 comments Romance with war as a backdrop makes war feel romantic and "cool" oftentimes I feel like. That's something I like about books like Rilla of Ingleside, it doesn't gloss over the true pain of the war. At. All.

Becky Harris (rlharris) | 17 comments Have you guys read Jack Cavanaugh's American Family Portrait series? It's about this family starting back in the 1600's and they pass a Bible down through each generation to the present day. A lot of the books take place against a war backdrop with a hint of clean romance in them. https://www.goodreads.com/series/5682...

Jasmine (Jazzie) | 848 comments @Becky, I haven't read them, but they sound interesting, and I'll definitely look into them!

Becky Harris (rlharris) | 17 comments My favorites in that series were probably "The Adversaries", "The Victors" and "The Patriots." It was a fun series.

Elisabeth (Bets) (livingforjesus) | 1194 comments Ooo they sound like fun! I just marked one as Want to Read so I don't forget them 😜

I LOVE Rilla if Ingelside. It's so good, even if it doesn't have action lol. Some books are just good enough that you can't help but love them, even if they're not your favorite genre.

I'll have to look at those. :)

Madelyn (Maddie) WW2, civil war, Underground Railroad

Naomi McCullough | 89 comments Lots of fellow Civil War enthusiasts here!
Besides that one, I am interested in WW1 and 2, Revolutionary War, Western Expansion, and the Edwardian era. Some of the Great Depression/30s in general.

message 19: by ✧Bella✧ (new)

✧Bella✧ | 1121 comments I like:

American Civil War
Basically, any revolution
Middle Ages
Worl War I
World War II

Idk if I really have a go-to time period anymore. It seems like I've been leaning toward World War II lately, but that just might be because there are so many books set during that time. A few years ago, it was American Civil War, no question.
