Initially, I thought to read Hugo 2024 nominees in June. However, now I see that a few of the active members plan to start them earlier and, therefore may be less active in discussions later. So, do we continue with Hugos, or not?

MH | 299 comments The only novel I haven't read is The Saint of Bright Doors, which we're already scheduled for. So I don't mind either way.

Novellas is much harder.

Personally I expect to read Starter Villain pretty soon, and May is good for Bright Doors, and Some Desperate Glory isn’t a priority. It will take me a while to get hold of The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi, so scheduling it for June would make sense, in my particular situation.

Rachel | 126 comments I’ve been looking at novellas myself - more that interested me and easier to fit them in

There is clear interest in the nominated novellas, so I suggest the following: 2 polls, one of H-nominated novels, another - novellas and we read the winner of the 1st and 2 highest ranked in the 2nd

is it ok?

Fine with me. I’ll be ok with whatever the plan is.

Rebecca | 401 comments This sounds great, I too am more interested in reading the novellas.

Ok, regarding novellas: should I list both ones from Nebula and Hugo, or only Hugo ones?

message 9: by MH (new)

MH | 299 comments I think both, and we can see what wins.

I think your plan sounds good Acorn, and both N/H novellas should work, since there's some overlap and a few have already been read (maybe just Thornhedge).

I suspect we'll be reading Amina al-Sirafi in June by process of elimination...

message 11: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 126 comments I think both for the novellas as well. There is some overlap and I think we’ve read some already

MH | 299 comments The only one we've officially read is Thornhedge. Which leaves:

The Crane Husband
Linghun
Untethered Sky
The Mimicking of Known Successes
Mammoths at the Gates
“Life Does Not Allow Us to Meet”, He Xi (in Adventures in Space)
Rose/House
“Seeds of Mercury”, Wang Jinkang (in Adventures in Space)

Poll for novellas https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/2...

Two Chinese novellas are in "Adventures in Space (Short stories by Chinese and English Science Fiction writers)" which GR doesn't show but here it is on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Adventures-sto...

Two months ahead, I just finished The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi a few days ago. I liked it.

We'll all probably have to wait until the voters packet for Rose/House since it's a Subterranean publication.

I've had a hard time finding a physical copy of The Mimicking etc. =/
I've always been curious to try Malka Older's Infomocracy books but if I can find it then I'll likely start with this new series.

Stephen Burridge | 230 comments Kindle copies of Rose/House are available for C$7.48 at Amazon.ca.

message 19: by MH (new)

MH | 299 comments I was able to get Mimicking via my local library's Overdrive instance.

Good point about the voter packet. I guess I might not have to hunt so hard for Rose/House then if I can just wait.
