June Farrow is aware that eventually she will fall under the curse that all Farrow women have suffered for decades. Now in her 30's she has begun to see tell-tale signs: faint voices calling her name, cigarette smoke when there is no one there, phantom touches and a red door that appears in the middle of fields. Rumors about the Farrow women are abundant especially since the disappearance of June's mother Susanna. After the death of June's grandmother, the woman who had raised her, June discovers clues to an unsolved murder from 100 years ago and a strong pull to finally step through that mysterious red door. When she is on the other side her life changes forever and she is unsure whether she will ever be able to return home.

This is so not my genre of choice but I did enjoy this story quite a bit. I don't handle fantasy or time-travel well. I think I'm just a bit too rooted in the real world. I just might try another book from this author in the future.

Is it like a portal to a different time? I might read this too. The author seems very versatile. You might like Fable. It’s fantasy but it feels like the real world in the 18th or 19th century. They don’t use the term but the book has a lot of pirates tags. I don’t read pirate books, so I have nothing to compare it to, but I was riveted.

Yes, I think that is an apt description of the door. Since this is so outside my wheelhouse I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. And thanks for the suggestion for "Fable". I will look into it.
