Olivermagnus (lynda11282) | 4758 comments This is the first book in a series called The Chronicles of St. Mary’s which follows a group of historians as they travel through time and enjoy a cup of tea upon their return. Their job is to chronicle the past in the most accurate way, by observing it in person. The main character, Dr. Madeline Maxwell, known as Max, is incredibly brilliant and has a wonderful sense of humor. She has something dark in her past but it doesn't seem to have affected the woman she's grown into.

The story builds in a nice way with short trips to Troy and plague infested London before going back to the Cretaceous Period, which was very vividly written and one of my favorite sections. I liked that there was little scientific explanation for the time travel devices, because the author admits she made it all up. You will be drawn into the adventures of this reckless crew as they throw caution to the winds to accomplish their missions.

The book is a hilarious romp through time, with plenty of eccentric characters, action, romance, deception and a lot of intrigue. And definitely some history.

I found this to be one of the most entertaining books I've read all year. I'm going to try the next one in audio and add the rest of the series to my TBR.

Robin P | 5727 comments I loved this book which combines time travel, mystery, romance and action. I did it on audio, which was great, and that's the only way I consume it now. Some of the books get really over the top, and some show the grisly truth of historical events, but it's a wonderful series.

Jgrace | 3934 comments This is how I spend many of my audible credits. The series goes on and on, and is somewhat repetitive, but they are fun. Sometimes I need a book that is purely entertainment.

On the other hand, I've learned a surprising amount of history jumping back in time with the St Mary's crew.

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12562 comments I love this series Oliver-I know you too will enjoy it. As Robin says it gets a bit repetitive, but it is still my go to series for light entertainment-In fact I am reading # 10 right now.
