Any recommendations for this time period? I personally have not read much in it so I'm excited to see any recs y'all may have

Melanie Dickerson! Almost all of her books are in this time period. I’ve only read the first two of her Hagenheim series, but they were both great.😁

I've read quite a lot of Melanie Dickerson books (I used to love them) but they aren't really my thing anymore. Plus, they aren't very historically accurate, unfortunately. My main complaint with them, tbh, although they also are a little too romance focused for my taste.

I don't read a lot of romance but every now and then I get in a mood for a light romance so I'll read some Jannette Oke, Melanie Dickerson is someone I've wanted to check out for a while tho. Her Hagenheim series is the one that has caught my eye.

Yeah, I loved her books for a little while, then she was someone who I would pick up when I wanted a light romance. I haven't read one of her books in a little while now, but I read her entire Hagehiem series except for the last one. I wasn't a fan of the demons involved in The Healer's Apprentice though. And it felt... wring that a Christian could just become possessed because a conjurer wanted them to be, and cast a spell, or whatever. Anyway, there's none of that in her other books. But, man, the historical inaccuracies... Smh.

Hmmm that is weird. Yeah I wouldn't read them for historical accuracy 😂 I would read them when I just need something light and easy. That's why I like romances. You can read them in about any mood and they're so easy. They're more relaxing then some books

Yeah, I always read them for romance, but somehow some of the books made me... perhaps a little uncomfortable. Which is weird, because there's no spice, and they don't even usually kiss until the end. But they ARE always thinking of kissing. And then in the second Dericott Tale, there was the whole sleeping together for warmth trope, which doesn't always feel awkward (ie. THG), but in this one it felt... idk how to describe it. Of course, it has been several years since I read that one.

But anyway, some books have worse historical accuracy than others lol.

So are their thoughts kinda spicy? One thing I love about Janette Oke is the sweetness. And they're so pure. If there's a kiss it's simply mentioned and my favorite of her books doesn't even have a kiss. Not even forehead or anything. My other favorite of hers has like 3 kisses and one on the head kiss but that's it.

Idk how to explain it, they just go on and on about how attractive each other are in their thoughts. They tend to stick to faces (well, and broad shoulders), though. You know, his eyes, and his nose, and his hair, and his cheekbones, and everything. it makes me want to roll my eyes, especially when I was reading it aloud to my sister lol. And I don't know how many times they think about what it would be like to kiss.

Ok. I might not like her books as much after all. 😂

I love George McDonald. His are romance but they're not as much and it's a lot heavier. His books are amazing but after one or two I always need something lighter. His almost always have mystery, intrigue, and plot twists. lol I don't think they're medieval tho...

I might have to check those out even if they aren't medieval lol.

No offense, Ellie, I'm just not a big fan of Melanie Dickerson's (anymore). I know a lot of people love her, and I used to.

They're REALLY good. lol. They're all set in Scotland (I believe?) and they're squeaky clean from what I remember. They're christian but I don't remember them being preachy at all. Sometimes they do drag a bit but if you push through the slow parts it's always worth it imo.

Yeah I love books set in Scotland and England. So I just checked. HIs books were published in the mid to late 1800's. I always read the Michael Phillips adaptions (I've never seen one that hasn't been revised by him) since they're rewritten some. They're still older english style tho.

Geoffrey Trease has some fantastic Middle Ages adventures. My personal favorite, thus far, is The Red Towers of Granada.
The Great and Terrible Quest by Margaret Lovett is a sweet, middle grade story about a knight with amnesia, trying to finish his quest to find the true descendent to the throne.

(Also realizing I haven't added these titles to my "read" list. Excuse me while I amend that.)
