I was a stay-at-home mom when my kids were small and used to volunteer in the school library. I got my teaching degree and the year I graduated the job market evaporated. I kept on volunteering in the library. The librarian ran into an old boyfriend who was now a superintendent of a local school board. He told her what I should write in the letter to get an interview-and I got the interview and a job as a substitute teacher.
Of course after the first day on the job reaching French to 12 year olds, I wasn't so sure about my choice of careers.

What a cool story! I'm so glad to hear it got better. Teachers are such a valuable part of society, but it is a difficult career - thank you for all you do!

I broke my ankle wakeboarding the week before I went to college. I was placed in a room on the third floor of my dorm building so I had to hop up and down the stairs on one foot. One day, as I was jumping up the stairs I met a guy who offered to carry me up (I declined - stranger danger haha). We ended up chatting and discovering that he was also a competitive wakeboarder and became friends. He is now my husband :)
