This is the sixth book in the Zodiac Academy series. I flew through the first four and then the fifth kinda slowed me down. I'm trying to finish these all up before the end of the year. This book has changed the series in my opinion. This is a turning point for all of the characters, and the overarching plot. There are so many different ways the series can still end, so I'm not exactly sure how it will go. I have one idea in mind that will be a for sure conclusion (view spoiler) . The ending of this one had my heart pounding and my emotions all over the place. I'm so glad the next book fits for the next shelf call so that I can just keep going.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

While the idea was interesting, I did not think this book was particularly well executed. The MC was quite frustrating to me because she kept running head long into danger with no idea what is going on or how to help. Honestly, it seemed miraculous that she survived at all. The secondary characters were not well developed and were quite confusing. I still have no idea of what most of their motivations were or why they acted the way they did in the book. The world seems to have potential, but honestly, I'm not invested enough in any of the characters to want to continue.

Requirement: Choose a book using one of the following options ...
* For "Jack-o-lantern", read a book with a cover featuring a pumpkin, a halloween-themed read, or a character or author named 'Jack' or 'Jackie' (other spellings allowed: Jacky, Jacki, etc)
* For jacket shelf, read a book found on one of these shelves: GR cover love or SOS cover-leather-lace

Hobbled by her former alpha and in constant pain from being unable to shift, Kait Silvers uses her talents to go after rogue supernaturals in her town. When the other local alpha comes looking for help in finding whatever is killing his wolves, Kait agrees to help when he promises to free her wolf. The idea had promise, but I honestly just couldn't get into the story. One moment the MC was happy to be around wolves, and the next she wanted nothing to do with them. Her mom seemed like a great person, but the first thing she wanted when she found out her daughter would finally be able to shift was for her to get revenge and kill their first alpha. The inconsistancies in the way the characters were behaving detracted from the overall story for me and made it confusing to understand why they were behaving in that way. Maybe some more background context would have helped, but I'm just not invested enough in the story to continue with the series to see if the information gets sorted out in the later books.

I would have given this 5 stars but there were some parts that just went on too long. I also very much could have gone without the villain's POV. Overall, could have been probably 200 pages shorter. The writing has gotten better, as has the character development. I'll be continuing the series. I am just a little in shock how this one ended. It's something I've found to happen in each of the books, mostly fluff in the middle and loads of action and twists in the last 100 pages.

Review:
Jacky and her brothers Niko and Davor travel to Alaska after a werecat believed to be lost in the final change. What they find is a conspiracy far more complicated than expected. I love Jacky, and it's hard to see her still grieving after being forced to kill Fenris in the previous book. I enjoyed getting to know more about her brothers, Niko and Davor; but I missed seeing her work with Heath and Landon. My favorite books in the series focus on the three of them working together. The plot in this one did drag some from time to time, but overall another excellent edition to the series. 4 stars

Review:
With Mercy still struggling from her injury by the Soul Taker artifact in the previous book, this book was not as fun of a read as I normally expect from the series. I did enjoy the addition of Norse mythology into the world and seeing a different type of villain in the story. Mercy and Adam were great together as always. The random short chapters from other characters' point of view were interesting, but felt more like a distraction from the main story making it seem a little disjointed at times. Overall 4.5 stars this time around, and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series where both Mercy and Adam should be back to their normal selves.

I recently finished the Phoenix Pack series, and had already start the Mercury Pack series (this one) so I thought why not just go ahead and continue with it. However, having finished the original series I feel a little spoiled for this one. That's why I've rated it a 3. I liked the characters and I'm already familiar with the world they live in. I'm unsure if I'll continue the series at this point.

I've seen a lot of people online talk about this series, especially when the topic of Romantasy comes up. However, I wouldn't necessarily categorize it that way. I would probably put this more in an Urban Fantasy category. Brexley is your standard MC who is tough, with a troubled background. Parent's are dead, but she was raised by a wealthy friend of the family. It wasn't specifically talked about, but I do believe she isn't fully human. There's something else going on there, but not elaborated in the first book. There could possibly be two love interests, but that also isn't fully fleshed out. I will be continuing the series. I bought the second one before fully completing this one.
