Cheryl (cherylllr) What does June mean to you? Summer vacation from school? The longest Midsummer Day, or the Winter Solstice if you live in the southern hemisphere? Road trips? The end of the fiscal year? The letter "J"? Think creatively, and find a Time Travel book on your to-read list that you can justify linking to this month.

I have no idea what I'll read yet, so suggestions are welcome!

Cheryl (cherylllr) Theme is summer vacation, except I think traveling virtually, through stories, to Cambodia more pleasant than irl: Fathers of Cambodian Time-Travel Science.

Except... looking at it in hand, it may be TT in title only. Well, it's short and different, so I'll try it and let you know.

But I'll run the search through my library catalog again and be more careful this time, so I'm ready with a back up read. :)

Lizz Taylor | 218 comments It means living in air conditioning and drinking a lot of iced tea while dealing with the fiscal year end and all of the reports due in an unreasonably amount of time. Maybe I will read The Time Machine by HG Wells again since it would be very helpful to have one.

Cheryl (cherylllr) Aha! And it's familiar and fairly short, so a convenient read, too. :)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Ok I just read a short picture-book that hits all the buttons. Treat yourself to a giggle and read The Trouble with Time Travel. If you have a child on summer break, perfect! Otherwise, pretend you *are* a child on summer break!

Cheryl (cherylllr) I'm also rereading the Willow Falls children's series, and I know for sure the first one, at least, 11 Birthdays is TT (Groundhog Day style) and these also count for summer vacation reads, which, again, is perfect for June imo.

June means birthdays, my son's, my sister's, my best friend's daughter's, plus Father's Day. It is the beginning of the summer and time to indulge in outdoor activities.

I just finished the third in the Timeless series by Gabrielle Meyer. These books are entertaining and go down easy.

Cheryl (cherylllr) Gabrielle Meyer. Perfect choice! (And congrats to all your loved ones!)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Btw, Fathers of Cambodian Time-Travel Science did have some TT stories in it. But it also had a lot of ugliness in it; I don't have a very strong stomach for thrillers or horror so I didn't care for it. Oh, but if you like camping or road trips, the story about Ben Franklin qualifies for that, as well as for TT-adjacent.

Lizz Taylor | 218 comments I hate horror. I have tolerated it in some books but don't enjoy it at all. Sorry the book turned out to be such a disappointment. Re-reading

H.G. Wells the Time Machine was like visiting an old friend. The lead character has the scientist elitism like his Invisible Man character (who was an outright jerk). There is so much they could have chosen to do with their discoveries. I always wondered how different it would have been if Jules Verne had written it since he digs deeper into the motivations of his characters (i.e. 800 Leagues on the Amazon). You could almost make a case for Around the World in 80 Days being time travel since they crossed the International Dateline.

Anyway, I was happy with my June choice and look forward to reading whatever we decide to read in July.

Cheryl (cherylllr) Hmm. You've now got me interested in reading more Verne. I did not care for 20K leagues under the sea at all, when I tried it for group last year, partly because I didn't get an impression of the characters. Maybe I'd like 800 Leagues on the Amazon better.

Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed your choice.

Deborah | 36 comments I did read 11 Birthdays and it was good, but I don't feel the need to continue the series.

Fair enough! The others aren't quite as good, imo.
