The Book of Disquiet will serve as a kind of background text for our next set of books, which share a kind of “existential angst”*, and which Pessoa and his heteronyms seemed to personify in this collection of disquieting fragments. We’ll read the book and have a single open discussion from March 30th thru July 5th, 2015. When referring to a particular fragment, please list the fragment number and the first sentence, in case members are using different editions.

(*The existential angst books are:
Notes from Underground - Dostoevsky
The Tartar Steppe - Buzzati
The Plague - Camus
The Tunnel - Sábato
Desperate Characters – Fox)

I have to admit that I set it aside even earlier than on my last attempt (60 pages this time, 150 previously).

The sections are each enjoyable enough to read, but there's no drive to the book -- nothing that makes you (or me) want to pick it up again.

Hugh (bodachliath) It was a few years ago, but I did actually finish this book, largely on the strength of wanting to understand more about Jose Saramago's The year of the death of Ricardo Reis.
I can't pretend it wasn't a struggle - the moments of brilliance were largely lost in a formless and repetitious mass of random thoughts. I'm not surprised this discussion drew so few comments...
