EJ Hi, I'm Liz! I’m a passionate and dedicated beta reader with a keen eye for detail and a deep love for storytelling. Specializing in young adult, romance, dark romance (the smuttier the better), thriller, and fantasy genres, I am just starting out and would love to help an author out.

David Cray | 42 comments Hello Liz!
I'm looking for beta readers for my 130 K fantasy adventure manuscript. It's about a young man who always wanted a magic sword, but when he finally gets one, it's not as he imagined it would be. If that sounds like something that might interest you, let me know. I can be reached directly on Goodreads or by email at davidcray1988@gmail.com. Thanks so much!

Lee Brooks | 2 comments Hi Liz

I would love someone to beta read my festive novella The Candleglow Chronicles. It is approximately 27k words and written in twenty five chapters, as an advent story for my kids. It tells the story of Nikolai Christoval who rises from humble beginnings in St Petersburg, Russia to become a powerful sorcerer who, along with his best friend, a talking dog called Boz and some rather famous historical figures, casts a spell to save the world from the creeping darkness of a shadowy organisation and in the process creates our modern idea of Christmas.

Many thanks

Lee

Jasper Whitted (notafunsucker) | 16 comments Hey Liz,

If you're still accepting, here is my blurb:

A romantic relationship may be just what Quinn Atwell needs to finally move forward from traumatic childhood events that have plagued him for years. But as a Midnighter, he’s about to be assigned a six-year-old to protect and train during the secret, monster-teeming 25th hour each night, which complicates things.

Juggling both relationships proves arduous, especially when the Midnighters Organization accuses him of a crime he hasn’t committed. Quinn will have many monsters to face, but the scariest monsters may not be the ones in the 25th hour…

Some information so you can make an informed decision about if my book is right for you:
-Logistics—genre is scifi-romance, book length is 87k (350 pages 12 point font, double spaced), intended audience is new adult, and this is the first of a series (books 1-3 are complete with expectation of 1-2 more books to finish the series). This novel has been through multiple rounds of editing and beta readers, and is not a first draft
-contains mature content including sex/sexual scenes, violence, cursing, etc.
-the main character is bisexual and there are LGBTQ+ related themes/references

Thank you for your time and for your consideration. It's awesome that you like spending spare time reading and helping out authors. Hope you find some good reads this summer, even if one of them isn't mine!

I am looking for beta readers for my 3rd novel, Dreaming of Jerusalem. I'm looking for a deep critique--not just 'I liked it' or 'I didn't like it'--pls tell me what I'm doing wrong and suggest how I can fix it. I especially struggle with 'killing my darlings'; Dreaming is already too long. I don't need any more words, I need to make sure the words I have are the right words. I am a professional editor (on Reedsy Marketplace) and I wd love to return the favour and critique your novel-in-progress. (I can critique other people's novels, I just can't do it for my own work.)
My 1st novel, The Lost Wisdom of the Magi was Winner of the 2021 Killer Nashville Silver Falchion Award for Best Historical. My second novel, The Genizah Codex, will be out in a few weeks.
If you're interested in such an exchange, could you pls contact me?

Marissa K | 16 comments Hi! I have a ~50k just completed (working on editing now by the end of the week) adult romance. Vaguely spicy. But mostly deals with adult concepts such and divorce, tragic accidents, abuse within a marriage, healing from said trauma and then of course strong language.

I’m really hoping to find beta readers asap. This story is my original story, Latinx representation and is technically enemies to lovers. It takes place in beautiful West Palm Beach Florida with a biker/firefighter MMC and a Fiery Plant Shop FMC. There are side charters and side story problems that the characters have to solve as their love slowly blooms. There’s flashbacks and detailed depictions of what happened in the before that has lead to the now. There’s of course a cute pup and bike riding scenes.

I really hope this peaks your interest, if it does email me marissaknight5@protonmail.com

Thanks in advance :)

Alyssa Wells | 5 comments Hello,

I have a completed YA paranormal romance (with urban fantasy undertones) novel that needs some eyes on it before being sent to an editor. It is approximately 80k words. If interested, I will send the prologue + first three chapters. Please reach out here or my email is writerawells@gmail.com. Thank you!

"Vampires aren’t real."

Tell that to Teddy. Despite her grandmother’s wild stories, she was never quite convinced vampires are actually real. Besides, she has bigger things to worry about, like deciding which college she’s going to attend. It sounds simple enough, but her long-term boyfriend already has their life planned out for them. Teddy just isn’t sure it’s the life for her. A fight between them causes Teddy to run off into the night. What she didn’t expect was to run into one of the creatures from her grandmother’s stories.

Romeo, a half-vampire, half-human hybrid, has been kept in hiding for his whole seventeen years of existence. Loneliness and curiosity get the best of him, and he sneaks out to get a taste of the world beyond the four walls of his home.

The two of them are from completely different worlds - Yet when they meet for the first time, they feel drawn to one another in a way they can't explain.

With Teddy's help, Romeo learns to embrace his "human" side. Together, they experience all the ups and downs of senior year. But as the school year draw to a close, feelings blossom between the two of them that are impossible to ignore."

Panna Markó | 2 comments Hi, Liz!
I’d love you to be the beta reader of my first novel. It’s a 53,7K words manuscript, it’s an adventure sort of thing. It’s called Crimson Colours. I’ve been working on this book for two years now, and I think it could really use a fresh eye like yours! It’s about two vampires who embark on a seemingly impossible journey to Africa, Cairo to regain a long lost family heritage, a necklace that protects vampires from the sunlight. It’s in a museum. But little do they know, they are not the only one looking for that necklace; and the museum has a few tricks up its sleeve, too. When the two vampires, Nicolas and Andrew scatter in time and space, fighting their own battles, they have to work their way back to each other. Because, as it turns out, everybody wants to rule the world.
I need any critique you’d have, typos, grammatical errors, any thoughts and notes on characters, the plot; anything and everything.

My novella (40k words approx) is a werewolf romance (slow-burn, with folklore references)
I am trying to avoid a cliché story in terms of characters! This book has a very strong-minded, career-oriented and independent female lead with a werewolf alpha who is not just strong but also a down-to-earth, funny, caring guy, basically a walking green flag! Natalia Pietruch | 26 comments I'm looking for beta for my contemporary psychological romance 50k

Synopsis:

"All These Things..." follows the journey of Nina, a reflective woman grappling with the intricacies of modern dating and relationships. Initially, Nina navigates the world of online dating with cautious optimism, encountering both promising connections and disappointing interactions. Her initial interactions with Robert, a symbol of potential stability, contrasts with the tumultuous relationship she develops with Blaine.

As Nina's relationship with Blaine unfolds, it is marked by intense emotional highs and devastating lows. Blaine's unpredictable behavior and bouts of jealousy strain their bond, yet Nina remains entangled, driven by a deep-seated desire for connection and meaning. Through their interactions, the narrative delves into themes of identity, self-worth, and the existential quest for purpose.

Despite her efforts to support Blaine, his emotional volatility often leaves Nina feeling isolated and overwhelmed. The tension culminates in several dramatic confrontations, highlighting the fragility of their relationship. Nina's internal monologue reveals her struggle to reconcile her need for love with her growing awareness of the relationship's toxicity.

The story's climax sees Nina confronting the painful reality of Blaine's betrayal and the chaos of his family dynamics. In a poignant epilogue, Nina appears to have settled into a semblance of domestic tranquility with Blaine, yet the narrative leaves readers questioning the true nature of her contentment and the sacrifices made for this illusion of stability.

Natalia Pietruch | 26 comments I have finished a second draft of my first novel. It is about relationships, but I wouldn't think is a standard romance. There is quite a bit of philosophical musing, abrupt emotions, mental instabilities, searching for meaning and identity.
There is no sex scenes.
It starts with a woman in her 30s trying to find love on Tinder and what she finds, she put herself from one relationship dynamic to another and she tries to make sense of it all.

If you would like to give it a go my email: nat.petruch@gmail.com

Chelsie | 57 comments Hello Liz! If you're interested I would love for you to read my YA fantasy novel (99k words in length), Four Queens' Fates! Here's the blurb:

Every generation in the royal family of the Queendom of Dirington, four sisters are born. And every generation, when the youngest sister turns thirteen, the girls are given three years to kill one another. This generation seems to be cursed. Each sister has different beliefs and ulterior motives, but they share a couple things in common: they all have softer hearts than a queen should, they share passion and fury, and rebellion rises in their hearts.
Firanna is the oldest and strongest sister, and she bears the power of the Fire Element. She struggles to keep a strong face in front of events that threaten to make her mask slip. She seems heartless and cruel on the outside, but inside she’s fighting to keep herself together. Watene is the next eldest and the weakest sister, with the power of the Water Element. She’s resigned herself to death, since her body is weak and she’s dying anyway. But when a certain boy enters her life she begins to think maybe she holds more power than she thought. The next sister is Ealinna, the Earth Elemental. She is the strongest and bravest, but while she isn’t against killing, a bond has begun to grow between her and her sisters. The youngest sister, Airabella, is the Air Elemental. Her unconditional love for all her sisters makes her a prime target and shows she’s unfit to be queen.
When the sisters meet, they can’t find it within themselves to kill one another. As they delve deeper into the queendom’s history, they begin to realize that it’s not their sisters they should hate, but society. Between romance, trickery, and the fight to survive, the four sisters weave an intensely emotional plot. And some day, at least one of them will take the crown. But who will it be?

Clive Wright (clivewright) | 50 comments Hi EJ.

I have the first chapter of a parallel universe comedy, set in a classical Greek environment, with steampunk elements

Apart from the obvious 'Does the first chapter make you want to read the book?', I'm primarily interested in these questions:

Does the humour come through?
Does it feel fresh or derivative?
Do you get a sense of Dave's personality?
Are you transported to the place?
Does it seem real?

There's no great hurry. I have other work in progress. This has sat on the shelf for a while, so not urgent.

I don't have a strong preference as to how you format your comments, so do what's most convenient.

Looking forward to your frank feedback.

Yours,

Clive

Adva Shaviv ☆ ADHD fantasy author (advashaviv) | 20 comments Hi Liz,

I need beta readers for Distracted Magic - A cozy fantasy fairytale inspired by ADHD.

It's a "long short story" ("novelette", properly speaking) of about 14,000 words (~50 pages), and I need quick feedback (preferably within a week). I'm using StoryOrigin's system for gathering feedback.

☆ BLURB ☆
ADHD is magic. Sometimes, dark magic.

Kay is a new fairy, who’s a bit too much for some tastes. Rather than granting wishes, her distracted, forgetful and impulsive nature leads to miserable accidents. Things aren't getting any better when society accuses her of purposeful offence, calling her a witch.

She wouldn’t wish to wish the wish the witch wishes, but how to tell a fairy from a witch?

ADHD, fairytale retellings and magic meet in a charming, yet often quick to judge, world.

I would to hear from you if this sounds interesting!
Thank you so much! 💜
Adva

Olivia | 4 comments Hi!
I am looking for beta readers for my book Chasing Angels in the Dark. It's finished, about 100k words. I am thinking of self publishing and would like the opinion of a few betas. There's no explicit content, but it deals with suicide and depression, so, I have to warn you, although, the whole point of the story is to keep your faith (not in a religious sense, in general) and your courage when times are tough. Here's the blurb:
"In the midst of the Apocalypse War between humans and angels, Diletta, a disabled young woman, is on a mission to rescue the archangel she is in love with from a secret US military base, jeopardizing humanity's fate in the process.
When Heaven's legions descended on Earth, the world rejoiced. But humanity's leaders refused to surrender their power to angels, and a war broke out that left civilization in ruins.
Things seemed to turn in humankind's favor when the US army succeeded in capturing the commander of the celestial army and now holds him prisoner in an underground secret military base in New Mexico.
Diletta moved to Rome from the States just before the angels arrived, to start her life over, after a serious accident left her disabled and heavily depressed. Obsessed with Heaven's commander, she is hellbent on saving him, even though it could cost her her life as well as everybody else's.
The guilt is eating her up, but she can't stop. Is Diletta completely crazy or is there something else going on?
With the help of two zealot priests, a fallen angel, and an Apache delivery man, Diletta is on her way to rescue the man of her dreams and condemn everyone else.
Or is she?"
I have a specific set of questions I want you to answer. Don't worry, there are only a few and don't require detailed analysis. And, of course, you can comment on anything else you like.
Are you interested?

Abbey | 19 comments Hi Liz! I finished a third draft of my new adult fantasy (definitely some romantasy) manuscript. It's clocking in at about 86k words.

Here is a synopsis:
A dead father. A tyrannical king. A realm that has turned its back on the gods. Serafina Oakhart never asked to be a hero. She only wants vengeance.

When her father passes tragically after succumbing to King Aldric’s addicting drug, Serafina devises a reckless plan to destroy the very crops that fuel the king’s empire. In her quest to save her country, Serafina becomes entangled with Errol Kalidan, a fearsome pirate lord with motivations of his own. Drawn into a volatile alliance, Serafina uncovers a rebellion simmering beneath the surface of the kingdom—one that could topple the throne but demands more than she's willing to give.

As the king's bans on worship suffocate his people, Serafina learns the gods have not abandoned them entirely. Velos, the god of death, offers her a dangerous bargain: his power in exchange for complete control. Armed with divine forces and propelled by grief, Serafina must decide whether vengeance is worth the price--and whether she can trust her growing feelings for an enigmatic pirate while the fate of her country hangs in the balance.

If you think we'd be a good fit, please let me know :)

Best,
Abbey

I'm currently editing my New Adult Fantasy Romance (120k) and I'm looking for betas. The second draft is done, and I'm looking for input on plot, characters, pacing, and world-building.

Story:
Ara knows she lives on borrowed time, being immune to magic is a death sentence in her world. But what if she could acquire a new gift to hide the signs of her immunity?
Bonding with a magical bird, and becoming a Skyrider is dangerous and could cost her life, but if she succeeds she is one step closer to keeping herself and her family safe.
Outsmarting her overprotective brothers by secretly entering the academy disguised as a man seems like a good idea until she runs into two men who could thwart her plans: Her brother’s best friend and her enigmatic division leader, who sees too much.
And then there is the tiny problem that her immunity prevents her from being healed, in a world where injuries are the norm.

If that is something you would be interested in reading and helping me out with and you still have time in the next month let me know :)

Thank you for your time!

Witny Lit | 71 comments I am seeking some free beta readers for my novel: Because the Demons Scream So Loudly. The novel is 115k words. It is an epistolary novel- it is written completely in journal/diary format. The novel is a mixed bag of religion/spirituality/romance/vampiric elements/fantasy.

Blurb/Excerpt: Entry 148- I still don't know how I managed it, Holy Sonom Soeht; the mind is indeed a powerful thing. My mind had already started to dissociate as the bleeder ran up to me, pinned me on the ground, and sunk his teeth into my neck. I fixed my eyes on the emerging moon as blood dripped down the back of my neck. The night lights blurred with tears but did not disappear. Not a single muscle of mine moved as he released my neck and stood up. To my shock, the bleeder spoke then as my gaze remained pinned on the sky. “It’s been quite a long time since I drew blood without a fight, and from a god woman to boot.” I heard him pick up my broken cleric chain off the ground. His foot pushed against my still frozen face as he stood over me, dangling my chain from his hand. “Such a shame that misery and naivety are not virtues,” he declared with blood still on his lips. The chain fell on the dirt beside me. As I listened to his footsteps turn and leave me, he hollered, “A word of advice, woman. If I can smell the insincerity on you, don’t you think your omniscient deity can?” I’m not sure how many minutes passed after he left, with me still paralyzed on the ground weeping.

If you are interested in beta reading for me, let me know and I can send you my beta reader application link. Please feel free to ask me any additional questions. Thank you so very much for your valuable time in considering it! Happy New Year!

Sean Currie | 1 comments Calling all beta readers! My new novel, “The Two Harrys”.
Three-time self-publisher, looking to find an established publisher.
I’ve just completed a literary espionage novel (with twenty rewrites) set in 1963 Cold War London – a story of betrayal, survival, and the quiet brutality of those who operate in the shadows. If you enjoy tense, character-driven fiction with rich historical detail and morally complex heroes, I’d love your feedback. The manuscript is complete and polished, but I’m looking for honest reactions before final edits. If you're interested in reading and offering your thoughts (a chapter at a time or all at once), please message me. Thanks in advance – your insights will make all the difference.
English writing per New Oxford. 80k words. Some violence, death, one sex scene, no language. Ask me any questions.

Hey Liz!
I'm currently looking for beta readers for my book titled "MAXUM." It is a YA romantasy. Here is the blurb :)

Advice: Never fall in love with your best friend’s girlfriend.

Seventeen-year-old, confident Zach Taylor was born and raised in poverty in the small town of Maryfield, Oregon. As the bank is about to foreclose on his mother’s home, he hatches a plan to get funding for a Memory Insertion company that his father tried to start before he died.

Zach’s friend Jason sneaks him into a secret event called the Masked Investor, held at an abandoned mansion on the outskirts of town. But something is off that night. First, a brown-masked investor says the word “human” like it's an insult. Then, Zach finds Jason having a whispered discussion in a conservatory “off-limits” to guests. He thinks the strangeness of the night is over when he arrives home, but Jason texts him a dropped pin—along with three of his friends—asking to meet on the same gravel road as the Masked Investor.

By the time Zach arrives… Jason’s car is at the bottom of a cliff.

That’s when Sarah lays her head on Zach’s shoulder.

But it was wrong. He shouldn’t have feelings for her.

For Jason’s girlfriend.

Murray Weber | 32 comments I would like to offer my book to an interested beta reader. It is a CIA undercover thriller with an enemies-to-lovers subplot. 70,000 words

Revenge Doesn’t Sleep
He hunted a killer. But the lies hunted him.

Blurb
From the age of ten, Matt Cavallo lived for one thing—revenge. The man he called father died in a fiery car bombing, a brutal message from Sicilian crime lord Antonio Moretti, lashing out over the shame of a wife's affair. The explosion that killed them shattered two families. Matt was left an orphan. Sofia Moretti, Antonio’s daughter, was left without a mother.

From eighteen, Matt had been forged into a weapon inside the U.S. military’s elite special operations. When the CIA offered him an off-the-books mission to infiltrate Moretti’s fentanyl empire spanning the globe—he didn’t hesitate. This was the path to justice… or vengeance.

But Sofia complicates everything. Beautiful, intelligent, and unaware of her father’s criminal world, she may be Matt’s way in—or the only person who can undo him.

As Matt descends deeper into Moretti’s empire, he walks a razor’s edge between mission and obsession. Each step brings him closer to the truth and to a final reckoning with the man who orchestrated his father’s murder and drove his mother to suicide.

Perfect for fans of David Baldacci, Tom Wood, and James Patterson—Revenge Doesn’t Sleep is a pulse-pounding, emotionally charged thriller where truth is as slippery as the past it tries to bury.

Ms. C | 23 comments My name is Mary and I have a manuscript for a novel called "Mullo". I am looking for beta readers to read and critique it, and I saw your advertisement in a Goodreads "Beta Reader Group". I would describe "Mullo" as historical fiction, horror, romance (LGBT). It goes back and forth between a story that takes place in the past and one that takes place in the present. Here is a blurb I wrote for it:

"THEN
In 19th century Romania, death is always just around the corner. Zorya, a Roma healer woman, knows this well. But when a stranger unexpectedly calls on her expertise, she, her husband, and her children, find themselves in a place they were once forbidden from entering. But even as their life becomes more stable and prosperous, it may only take one tragedy for things to fall apart."

"NOW
Nick Alicea isn’t having a bad day. He’s having a bad life. Stuck in a dead-end job, drowning in debt, and haunted by a tragedy from his past, he's struggling. So, when a chance encounter leads to a friendship with Mirza Durvari, a quiet doctor with a mysterious illness, Nick’s life starts to seem a little less bleak. But even as their relationship becomes more intimate, Nick is forced to ask himself: Who is Mirza Durvari"

The entire manuscript is 125,000 words. Let me know if you are interested in beta reading.

Looking forward to hearing from you..

~Mary
