Sam and Nick return home after a night out at a hockey game and a short trip to the ER to find her niece Brooke bloodied and unconscious on their doorstep. She was naked and covered in a sheet. She was supposed to be at a special school in Richmond. What did you surmise at the time?

Since Brooke was sent to the school because her parents wanted to get her away from some of her friends, I assumed she somehow ran away from the school. It looked like she got in some kind of trouble and she was abandoned on Sam's doorstep.

Brooke found a way out of her boarding school for troubled girls and found some more of the trouble that got her sent there to begin with.

I agree. I thought Brooke had one of her friends help her escape from the school and ended up on Sam's doorstep in trouble.

I also thought that Brooke had gotten into trouble with her problematic friends that we learned about in the previous book.
