July 2024 Nominations

You’ve heard it said: “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” But we all do it. Therefore in July, we are asking you to nominate a book with fantastic cover. What makes a fantastic cover? Use your own judgment. Is the cover great because of the gorgeous artwork, simple standout because it is unique, or does it just match a vibe you like. Nominate any book classified as YA that is not already on our GROUP BOOKSHELF. It will be helpful if you tell us what you like about the cover. All standard nominating rules apply (see below).

Nominating Rules:
- Nomination Period: starts June 2 and will stay open for 7 days or until we have enough valid nominations.
- You may nominate multiple books and the mods will triage the list if necessary.
- All nominations need to be classified as YA unless the nominating category specifically allows exceptions.
- Books must be first in a series or a standalone.
- Books must be at least 3 months old.
- Books must be available in print and not just ebook form. It is helpful to nominate books that are easy to access; so that members do not struggle to acquire the book if it wins in the polls.
- No author promotions allowed.
Next Steps: After nominations, the books will go to a poll to determine the winner.

I’m afraid I rarely pay attention to the cover and never read a book solely based on the cover. That isn’t to say I don’t appreciate a good one. I suppose it comes from all the times I was reading some classic SF or Fantasy with a rather embarrassing cover!

Yeah. A lot of those old scifi covers are cringy.

This book has a very similar plot line to The Scarlet Alchemist but I thought that A Magic Steeped in Poison was way better done.
