Every serial killer needs a friend.
Every game must have a winner.

When a chance encounter sparks an unlikely bond between rival murderers Sloane and Rowan, the two find something elusive—the friendship of a like-minded, pitch-black soul. From small town West Virginia to upscale California, from downtown Boston to rural Texas, the two hunters collide in an annual game of blood and suffering, one that pits them against the most dangerous monsters in the country. But as their friendship develops into something more, the restless ghosts left in their wake are only a few steps behind, ready to claim more than just their newfound love. Can Rowan and Sloane dig themselves out of a game of graves? Or have they finally met their match?

Lisa | 232 comments I’m on my phone so this will be quick. I’m 30% done and am enjoying the book so far - I loved the tv show Dexter, and this book reminds me of that show. Although, I thought the book might focus a bit more on the serial killing aspect of things and a little less on the romance, at least at first. It’s a bit cruder than o expected too, although maybe the long list of trigger warnings at the beginning should have tipped me off!

Lisa | 232 comments Now I’m almost 50% done. Three quick comments. 1. Even though they warned us about the (view spoiler) in the trigger warnings, I was still surprised! Eww! 2. I was wondering how Lark and Blackbird became friends. She seemed to know all the details about Blackbird’s killings. I found the author’s explanation quite believable. 3. My heart broke a little when Sloan went to meet up with Rowan thinking she might want more than just friendship and he planned a murder for the night….I’m sure it will work out in the end….

I liked the book (4 stars) and plan on reading the rest of the trilogy. I liked how Rowan proposed - it seemed fitting. The book was a bit much in several ways though - in particular I didn’t like how Rowan talked to Sloan once they got together; although she didn’t seem to mind at all.
