The Fortune HunterHalf of the year is over? Tempus Fugit!

I'm presently reading What We've Become Living and Dying in a Country of Arms by Jonathan M. Metzl What We've Become: Living and Dying in a Country of Arms and The Fortune Hunter by Daisy Goodwin and listening to Myth America Historians Take On the Biggest Legends and Lies About Our Past by Kevin M. Kruse Myth America: Historians Take On the Biggest Legends and Lies About Our Past
Looking forward to finish the intense nonfiction books for something much lighter probably later today. (The library lottery!)

Been cleaning up audio loose ends. All books that I had previously from the library but went back before I finished them and, of course, they had a wait list.
So, in the last 3 days, I've finished Small Acts of Courage A Legacy of Endurance and the Fight for Democracy by Ali Velshi Small Acts of Courage: A Legacy of Endurance and the Fight for Democracy. I had read this in ARC form, but I was eager to hear Velshi narrate it himself.
Then I finished A Fatal Inheritance How a Family Misfortune Revealed a Deadly Medical Mystery by Lawrence Ingrassia A Fatal Inheritance: How a Family Misfortune Revealed a Deadly Medical Mystery which makes me want to cry that one family has had so much cancer and that we have such a long way to go in fighting that disease.
And finally, Medgar & Myrlie Medgar Evers and the Love Story that Awakened America by Joy-Ann Reid Medgar & Myrlie: Medgar Evers and the Love Story that Awakened America about the live, the love, the assassination, and after of the Civil Rights activist.
I gave 4 stars to all three.

I finished 2 audiobooks today that were both fantastic 5-star reads. The Situation Room The Inside Story of Presidents in Crisis by George Stephanopoulos The Situation Room: The Inside Story of Presidents in Crisis which gives the history of the "bunker" in the White House.
The second was Stand Your Ground A Black Feminist Reckoning with America’s Gun Problem by Roxane Gay Stand Your Ground: A Black Feminist Reckoning with America’s Gun Problem. I'd recommend this for everyone!

Well, I found out I have COVID and am confined to my bedroom, so, boy! have I been reading.
Since Saturday I have finished The Duchess of Bloomsbury Street by Helene Hanff The Duchess of Bloomsbury Street. This is a slim follow up to 84, Charing Cross Road one of my all time favorites. I gave it 5-stars.
I finished listening to 3 books. First was Our Hidden Conversations What Americans Really Think About Race and Identity by Michele Norris Our Hidden Conversations: What Americans Really Think About Race and Identity. I think any empathic individual (and probably more importantly non-empaths) should read this book. Another 5-stars. Next was Once Upon a Time The Captivating Life of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy by Elizabeth Beller Once Upon a Time: The Captivating Life of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy 4 stars. Enlightening. Lastly a quick listen with True Gretch What I've Learned About Life, Leadership, and Everything in Between by Gretchen Whitmer True Gretch: What I've Learned About Life, Leadership, and Everything in Between 3.5 stars.

After a bit of delay waiting for it to be available through Libby again, I finished An Unfinished Love Story A Personal History of the 1960s by Doris Kearns Goodwin An Unfinished Love Story: A Personal History of the 1960s (meaning it didn't really take me 3 months to read it. I just lapped it up.

I also finished listening to Good to Great Why Some Companies Make the Leap... and Others Don't by Jim Collins Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap... and Others Don't. It was an "eh!" book for me although I picked up some interesting factoids.

I finished listening to Lula Dean's Little Library of Banned Books by Kirsten Miller Lula Dean's Little Library of Banned Books.
I read it because I saw that a librarian friend had given it 5-stars. I only gave it 3, but I do recognize that I might have gotten more out of it if I had read it. I admit that I had trouble keeping the characters straight.

I finished listening to two books yesterday while I cleaned out paperwork. The first was When the Night Comes Falling A Requiem for the Idaho Student Murders by Howard Blum When the Night Comes Falling: A Requiem for the Idaho Student Murders which is about Moscow, Idaho and the murders of 4 students and the suspect. It seems unusual to have a book before there's been a trial.
The second book was When Women Ran Fifth Avenue Glamour and Power at the Dawn of American Fashion by Julie Satow When Women Ran Fifth Avenue: Glamour and Power at the Dawn of American Fashion which was more encompassing than I expected. It wasn't just about the women, but also the stores that I fondly recall which are no longer in business. I was shocked when DJT (the orange stain) made appearance because of what he did to a building that housed one of those stores for years. He promised parts (gargoyles) to an art museum then renigged - destroyed. Seems par for his course. (I had read that part of the story many, many years ago in another book The Making of Donald Trump.
