The audiobook opens with a foreword from the author sharing the inspiration behind this novel. She's a journalist and she often wondered about the women standing by their accused men. Hence, this novel features one of those women (all fictional, of course).

Retrospectively, this book was actually very slow but I didn't really feel bored because the suspense while taut was really quite subtle. Slowly slowly bit by bit was the case peeled back. There were multiple perspective with the main ones being the widow (wife of the accused), the journalist, and the detective so there were at least three different spotlights of the case and yet, it wasn't until the last page that it crumbled down. And yet, I felt disappointed at the end. It just felt so anticlimactic after all the build-up.

This definitely opens up some interesting questions though. And some interesting theories. Truly, I was expecting some sort of psychological thriller twist so I was a little let down that it all seemed rather straight forward at the end.
