It’s time for the next Monthly Reading Wrap Up! This Month I Read…

It's in His Kiss by Julia Quinn- I listened to this one on Audio. I’m getting close to finishing up the Bridgerton series! I’m more of a contemporary romance girl, so I’ve had to take my time with these. This one is Hyacitch’s story and she just made my top two Bridgerton siblings. Benedict's story has always been my favorite but this one jumped right on up to the top. I’ve always loved Hyacinth and this story rang very true to her. The romance was cute and the mystery surrounding Gregory’s family and how that unraveled that was interesting plot wise. I absolutely loved the little jewel heist they went on too, and Hyacinth's continued determined search throughout the book. Haven’t decided if this tops Benedict yet, but it’s up there.

The Prisoner’s Throne by Holly Black- This was ok. The greater inclusion of Jude and Carden from the initial Folk of the Air series was a bonus to this one. I love Oak and think he is a great character, but parts of the plot just lost me. Perhaps it would have been better if I read the first one again before reading this because I had to remind myself of bits and pieces of the plot from that one as I read. Overall not a bad read, it just didn’t stand out.

A Perfect Vintage by Chelsea Fagan- Ugh. This was a 1 star read, which I barely give a rating that low. The main character is absolutely INSUFFERABLE. She says she’s perfectly happy with her choice to be a single career woman in her mid-30’s, but says things that make it seem otherwise. She assumes absolutely EVERYONE thinks less of her because of this choice and she gripes about it constantly (it’s in your head sweetie). She constantly complains about her cousin Stephanie and finds every way she can to infantilize her, but says she's like her sister and helped raise her? She totes her age as a beacon of “maturity” but she reads as an incredibly immature woman. I could not get past her awfulness to even enjoy the plot, but even if I could’ve I can tell the romance read more like lust than romance which was another strike against it. So yea, I don’t recommend this one at all.

Argylle by Elly Conway- I listened to this on Audio. I feel very misled by the movie that was released almost simultaneously. Haha. The movie looked interesting and fun. From what I understand it’s about an author of spy novels unintentionally writing the truth? I haven’t seen it yet so I’m not sure, but that’s why I thought. Also, the author definitely has an adorable scottish fold cat in the movie and I was very disappointed there was not a single cat to be found in this book. All that aside, it was a fine spy/thriller book. Not my typical thriller genre so I didn’t love it, but it was still good. I thought the characters were interesting and everything was well paced.
