Author Self Nomination Rules
Authors can nominate their own book for a group read under the following conditions:
- Up to 3 times if it meets the group's other read criteria.
- They & anyone voting for their book must be a member of this group & made at least 1 comment.
- The nomination must disclose that they are the author, self-nominating, & why they think we should read it.
-The book must be available for readers to get a copy prior to reading it.
- All author promotions are limited to the Promotion folder except for the nomination post. The author may answer direct questions, but keep them short. Refer to their topic in the promotion folder if it looks as if an off-topic conversation is starting.
As always, the moderators reserve the right to break up polls to foster group reads. We may break out self-published authors into a separate poll if enough apply.
We will also stop this at any time without prior notice if we feel that it is disturbing the group too much.

Books are nominated in periods (1) based on their original publishing date.(2) They must be seconded to appear on the poll.
All nominations should be made with the Goodreads link to the book (not the cover) using the "add book/author" link above the comment box, so we are sure of the book you're nominating. The Timegod is an example. If you can't make a book link, provide the URL to the book like this:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
One nomination & second per person. If you change either, please delete your earlier comment from the thread. Note that votes in the poll can be changed until the poll closes.
Books must be readily available in the group language, English. The more available a book is (multiple formats, good price) the more likely people are to vote for it.
Books should be the first in a series unless they stand alone & contribute to the discussion of the evolution of science fiction.
Only books that the group hasn't read in the past 5 years are eligible. You can find the books in the
Group Bookshelf or in the "What This Folder Is For..." topic in each period folder.
If we have read more than 3 books by an author in a period, their books will not be eligible for further nominations in that period for 5 years.(3)
We'll make at least one group poll for the period. If about 8 or more books are nominated, we might create 2 polls & break up the books in whatever manner seems appropriate. We may elect to have 2 Books of the Month (BofM) if the votes cast are close. The purpose is to foster the discussion of books, so we want to give members all the options we can.
(1) The current reading periods are:
Pre 1940
1940-1959
1960-1979
1980-1999
2000-2014
2015 & Up
(2) Sometimes these dates aren't clear due to republishing, but generally we'll use whatever date Goodreads has as the first publishing date. If there is a question, make your case & the moderators will rule on it based on the current number of nominations & other factors.
