Rachel | 280 comments I'm a little behind on writing these posts (it's field season.....), sorry! I picked this book because I LOVE LOVE LOVE Desert Solitaire, it's an absolute classic, and Edward Abbey is an iconic nature writer. But somehow I'd never read this book. Or Monkey Wrench Gang, which is fiction.... which will likely be a future fiction pick. Anyway, sometimes the picks are as simple as that and I hope we all enjoy this book!

Rachel | 280 comments Long chill holiday weekend and I'm catching up on reading! I just finished Down the River and now I really need to do a big river trip. I've always wanted to, but the way Edward Abbey writes always inspires me to do the thing NOW. This book was published in 1982, which was 40+ years ago, so some of his essays no longer reflect the current world, but many are still relevant. I mostly loved his descriptions of the various rivers he's traveled and how he can turn a poetic phrase without it also being complicated. I'll eventually read everything else he has written too!
