Teddie (teddieg) | 176 comments Time to start a Ilona Andrews series summer reread :)

Is it just me, or are the covers for this series so not what the series really is? I'd love a magic focused cover - I don't know.

ETA: Ok, I just looked at the paperback version of the book - better!

Ha! They just reprinted these with new covers last month. :) The originals are pretty cheesy, but I'll miss them a little.

Teddie (teddieg) | 176 comments Lol - I guess because the book isn't cheesy at all, I see the old cover as a few marketing people gleefully saying "Make the cover sexy!" "Yeah, and have the artist pull his shirt partially down in a way no hetero male would ever do!"
:D

It's definitely an old school cover. LOL

Krissy (krissystewart) | 3693 comments I will try this one but I can't stand the narrator of the audiobook. Not sure if I'll be able to overlook that. I'll give it a few chapters then decide for sure.

Stacey (boydsmom) | 557 comments Krissy, that stinks. Nothing worse than a narrator messing up a book you like. I've listened and relistened to so many Ilona books that I just associate Renee with them.

I'm about halfway through.
1. I love and will forever love Grandma Freda.
2. Mild spoiler for book 2, but there was a reference early on to a park being overrun with rats --I love that little things like that still spring up at me after my 3 or 4th time through.
3. I forgot how snarky Rogan and Nevada were in the beginning. So much fun. :)

Teddie (teddieg) | 176 comments I'm so enjoying this reread! I think I first read it years ago, right after finishing the Kate Daniels series so I was perhaps a bit harsh with a 3 star review - lol. Will probably bump that up this time through.

BTW, there was a reddit thread I saw yesterday on the cover thing - Ilona Andrews books were mentioned (lol) - but there were a few more doozies to be had: https://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/comm...

One last thing: looks like Tor Publishing picked up Ilona Andrews next series: https://reactormag.com/tor-books-acqu...
