Silena Beauregard is, in my opinion, one of Rick Riordan's best crafted characters. She isn't one of the main characters, however she is not just some background character whose death leaves fans unaffected because of her complex emotions.
She is the daughter of a man who owns a chocolate store, best friend of Clarisse, lover of Charles Beckendorf and former leader of Cabin 10.
In the book Sea of Monsters she is shown to be in charge of the Pegasus stable. Next time we meet her, we see that she is one of the few students at CHB in December. She got in an argument with the Hunters and said that she would show them how worthless love is (or something like that - I read the books in Romanian, so somethings were lost in translation). In the forth book, Silena is the one who runs the cabin inspections which made Percy nervous as she was very thorough.
In the fifth book, however, we start to see more of the Head of Aphrodite's cabin. She was devasted when Percy returned to camp without her boyfriend and was comforted by Clarisse. She was visibly upset and angry when the demigods started accusing each other of being the spy (whom she turned out to be as she betrayed CHB by giving Luke/Kronos insider information as she was charmed by him at first. When Luke/Kronos killed Charlie, she realised what she'd done was wrong.)
A thing that I will never not talk about whenever I talk about Silena is the scene when Percy told her that Charlie looked at her picture before he died.
In the Battle of Manhattan, Silena led her siblings to defend Queens. She was the one who told Percy that Annabeth needed one of Apollo's kids to heal her. Silena was the one who suggested that Ares' kids should come help, too and she even pretended to be Clarisse and lead cabin 5. She tried to battle the drakon, but wasn't able to until the real Clarisse came as a child of Ares was destined to kill it.
Until Clarisse came the drakon spat poison in her face and before she died she'd confessed to her friends why she'd betrayed them.
She was considered a hero by everyone except her half sister, Drew.

I think that Silena was human . She fought bravely, loved and was manipulated by Luke. Let's be honest - he knew what he was doing and she didn't know how to get out of it.
I think she is the best example of what war does to people.

I forgot to mention - Rick Riordan was incredibly clever when he wrote the friendship of Silena and Clarisse as we all know it parallels Achilles and Patroclus

lowri (gcse hiatus) (laddamswilliamsgmailcom) | 393 comments Silena is sooo underrated she's so complex and I think that she truly was in love with Charlie and after his death I think she truly snapped out of whatever trance she was in to work for Kronos. I think Silena doesn't deserve all the hate she gets as she gets a huge redemption arc at the end and she dies a hero. Without her leading the Ares kids into battle, I don't think the demigods would have won the battle of Manhattan.

exactlyyyyy!!! the ares cabin was essential in the battle and without her they would’ve stayed behind.
she was so in love with charlie and the fact that her last words were “see charlie” broke my heart.
