That's the list for September. How many have you read and what would you like to read in September?

message 2: by Pip (new)

Pip | 1822 comments I have only read 17 this time. I liked Austerlitz so will probably vote for another of Sebald’s.

message 3: by Gail (new)

Gail (gailifer) | 2173 comments I have read 15. The only ones I own are Death and the Dervish and Baltasar and Blimunda, but there are quite a few that I would like to read so I will wait to see what others suggest.

message 4: by Pamela (new)

Pamela (bibliohound) | 592 comments I’ve read 13 of these. There are a few I own and would be interested in - Rob Roy, London Orbital, An Obedient Father, The Jungle and The Emigrants.

message 5: by Rosemary (new)

Rosemary | 715 comments I have The Emigrants and Great Apes. I'd be happy to read one of those.

I've only read 15. I knew this was a list that I had not read many when I was posting. I also find that some of these are hard to easily acquire.
I am interested in
London Orbital
The Devil's Pool
The Magician of Lublin

message 7: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Dawn | 1679 comments I'm pleased that I have a nice pile to choose from this time: all previously unmentioned so it looks like there will be a robust consideration list on the thread this time. Mine are:

-the Manor
-Dining on Stones
-Downriver
-the engineer of human souls
-comrade tulayev
-memoirs of the nervous illness

I'll decide to either back one or toss things at the randomizer based on what other people are feeling.

message 8: by George P. (new)

George P. | 725 comments I've read my usual 1/3 of these (16). Looks as if most of us so far are about the same.
8 or 9 of these are in my to-read list, but only the two Singers (one or other of the two) and Street of Crocodiles in the next 100 on my list.
Several of the other books that have been spoken in favor of are further down my list: Memoirs of My Nervous Illness, The Jungle or Baltasar would all be welcome for me.
At this point I may vote for one or both of the Singer novels and probably one vote on Street of Crocodiles for the randomizer.
Gail- I liked Death and the Dervish but not everyone would I think.
The Schnitzler book, no. 12 on the list- None But the Brave- has the alternate title Lieutenant Gustl- it's not separate books. It's about an 85 page novella.

I just read Bruno Schulz: An Artist, a Murder, and the Hijacking of History. This along with The Street of Crocodiles, and one of the Singers would make a great companion read. I will be using some of my vote for the The Magician of Lublin.

I have read 12 of these. I am going to stay on the sidelines for this list.

message 11: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Carter | 35 comments I will vote for Baltasar and Blimunda, as I have the book on my shelf.

message 12: by Jane (new)

Jane | 369 comments I've read a handful of these and I'm open to a lot of them, but I'll probably throw in a bunch of titles for the randomizer: The Reader, Transit, The Double, Cain, To Each His Own, all strike me as interesting.

I'm late to the party, I'm always busy as hell when the Olympics approach. Only read 18 of them, but Ihave 5 to choose from on my TBR shelf:

- The Reader (Schlink)
- Rob Roy (Scott)
- How the Dead Live (Self)
- Death and the Darvish (Selimovic)
- Quo Vadis (Sienkiewicz)

I'm leaning towards The Reader at the moment, so might throw full support for that.

What will you be reading in September?

message 15: by Pamela (new)

Pamela (bibliohound) | 592 comments I’ll be reading The Manor, looks interesting. I’ve read The Reader.

message 16: by Pip (new)

Pip | 1822 comments I can’t find The Manor anywhere except Kindle and at NZD112 I’m not tempted to buy it. If anyone can find a source I would be pleased. I’ve read The Reader.

message 17: by Gail (new)

Gail (gailifer) | 2173 comments I have read The Manor so I will only be reading The Reader, which might allow me to catch up on my Random Challenge and Joseph.

message 18: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Dawn | 1679 comments I was one of the people who tossed in a vote for "The Manor" so I'm thrilled it got chosen by the randomizer, as I've already read "The Reader".

The Manor is here at Openlibrary for anyone else who is interested in reading: https://openlibrary.org/works/OL13450...

message 19: by Pip (new)

Pip | 1822 comments Well, thanks for the link, which works! When I searched his other books came up but not this one!

I was the other member who put a vote on The Manor. I've also read The Reader a few years ago (it's good). So I'll be reading The Manor- copies are scare but it seems I can get it at the city library or university library here. My notes also say that betterworld books has at least one copy for $6. It's set in Poland so maybe a good follow-up for Sophie's Choice which I've been reading.
So looks like we have at least four readers for the randomizer book, pretty good.
If I like Manor I will probably read Singer's Magician of Lublin in not-too-distant future as well.

message 21: by Rosemary (new)

Rosemary | 715 comments I'll be reading The Manor, too. I can get it from the library.

message 22: by Pip (new)

Pip | 1822 comments I will be travelling the whole of September, but I will try to get to The Manor when can.
