This is one of the few classics I hadn't read. I'm torn about how to rate this. The first part has some seafaring, which I enjoy. Later it was interesting how the hero built up a house and a sort of farm. But there are a couple aspects that reflect the era (1719). Not only does Crusoe accept the fact of slavery, he thinks it would be a good investment someday. When he sees natives, who are described as savages and cannibals, he assumes he can "get" one to be his servant, which in fact he does. There's also a lot about Crusoe's new dedication to Christianity and how he enlightens his "man Friday" in this new religion. At the same time, he has elaborate preparations for violence, some of which he eventually carries out.
