If I had a penny for every time Scarlett believed someone and let herself be led, I'd be rich.
There were many parts of the story which was not wrapped up too.
But it's fast paced so it keeps me turning the pages.

Unpopular opinion I was not a fan of OUABH.

Caraval is 100 percent worth it! A few chapters in and I was already fully immersed in the whimsical game! Though I will say, a few bits of the book were a bit confusing and I had to reread them. Personally, I really like Tella's character in the 2nd book, while Scarlett's character was not nearly as fun to read about in the 1st. When I am looking for a good book, I like to find one centered around a character that highly contrasts to my personality, like Tella. I'm an introvert who mainly spends my time reading books, crocheting and hanging out with cats. Are you bored yet? Although, I do think the first book of the series contains more of the sort of Caraval magic I was hoping for than Legendary, as I feel it is more centered around Tella's reckless love life. I'm very excited to start Finale nevertheless! I hope that this time, Scarlett and Tella play the game together, because I think Scarlett would be great at balancing out her recklessness throughout the game!

Moreover, the writing style frustrated me because it clearly attempts to be poetic while not really understanding how to go about doing so (example "The air tasted like wonder. Like candied butterfly wings caught in sugared spiderwebs, and drunken peaches coated in luck.") It's a lot of fanciful nothingness.
Poor relationship development between characters; world-building is superficial. The one thing I'll give it is that the concept is interesting, but that just makes me wish a better author had written it.
