Anita I've read Caraval part 1 and I liked it (4 stars). What do you think? It it worth to read the other two parts as well? Need help deciding.

Mulli the 1st book is not so good according to me cause of the ending....but the 2nd book is wwaayyy better!! currently reading the 3rd book

Claudia I really loved the first book, the way how it plays with your mind is amazing, really :)

Glowin Chell I didn't like it at all, lots of plot holes, poor word building, weird descriptions and the word magic is constantly thrown around with no real meaning. Furthermore, Scarlett (the main character), seems extremely naive and simply stupid. She had been warned several times not to believe anything in the game yet she does. She is also painted as a really good girl who has done nothing wrong and hasn't seen the world so it makes it hard to believe when the author tells me that she has learnt to know better because of her father. Cuz girl, what exactly did you learn???? Also this paints her romantic interest in a far worse light than he actually is. Speaking of romantic interest, I hate how they ended. He had not called her by her nickname since she found out the truth and when he confesses the whole story it felt like I've never even known such a person (in a bad way). I was genuinely wondering when Scarlett would realize that too. But Scarlett being Scarlett again believed everything and never doubted him. His confession was so random I questioned if he was truly the romantic interest. The whole book was wrapped up in mere rants from 3 characters and Scarlett. believed. them.
If I had a penny for every time Scarlett believed someone and let herself be led, I'd be rich.
There were many parts of the story which was not wrapped up too.
But it's fast paced so it keeps me turning the pages.

Shaan Kaur I really really loved this book. I admit it was confusing but it was is worth it.

Cayley read at ur own risk. legendary was definitely better but I haven’t read finale yet. there’s a few things I didn’t like abt the first book tho (cough cough scarlett). the series is actually addicting tho

Ava Kunz YES they're absolutely worth it I gave Caraval and Legendary 5 stars and Finale 4 stars. i loved the cozy magical vibes (especially in the first) and not knowing what was real and what wasn't. i put off reading the next two books for the longest time because i knew they were about Tella...and I hated her in Caraval. but I finally read them and they were so good! in the first book you only see Tella how people perceive her but being inside her head was so interesting and i fell in love with her also the romance in the last 2 books is so good!

IceSkater156 I really enjoyed book 1 but haven't got round to book 2 yet. I love the descriptions and plot twists of caraval.

Siebe Vermeeren I really love the Caraval series and the writing style of Stephanie Garber. You HAVE to read her serie once upon a broken heart next. It‘s an amazing heartwarming, thrilling and fantastical series. Caraval in general is actually one of my comfort books, because it‘s so good! Trust me, your next crush will be Julian Santos 😮‍💨

Paige Honestly I don't really remember half of Caraval even though I read it a week or two ago. I got kinda of confused toward the end. Hopefully when I read Legendary I can be reminded.

Aya Caraval was actually my favorite out of the serie(apart from ouabh) I liked it more than legendary and I feel like they should’ve included Julian and scarlet more in legendary and finale

CJ Really enjoyed Caraval! Just finished Legendary, the writing can be a little convoluted or overly descriptive at times and some of the pacing isn't quite right, but overall it's an enjoyable series.

lindsay i enjoyed it.

Paige I liked Legendary better but I think the plot and characters overall are just too addicting. Though the writing sometimes isn't the best, the books overall are just really good. The world really immerses you and the twists throughout the story? *chefs kiss* Also you have to read the Caraval series before OUBH and it really makes it worth it.

S. O. R I loved the first book. There was the whole air of whimsical magic which really pulled it through.

Unpopular opinion I was not a fan of OUABH.

Alyssa YES! I loved caraval its one of my all time favourite books in this whole world, like every 6 months I end up re reading it

Courtney Anna Handley Yes!!! Absolutely adored the series and then reading Once Upon a Broken Heart was amazing as the characters and storyline merges. One of my favourite series this year

~` faerie `~ **MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD**
Caraval is 100 percent worth it! A few chapters in and I was already fully immersed in the whimsical game! Though I will say, a few bits of the book were a bit confusing and I had to reread them. Personally, I really like Tella's character in the 2nd book, while Scarlett's character was not nearly as fun to read about in the 1st. When I am looking for a good book, I like to find one centered around a character that highly contrasts to my personality, like Tella. I'm an introvert who mainly spends my time reading books, crocheting and hanging out with cats. Are you bored yet? Although, I do think the first book of the series contains more of the sort of Caraval magic I was hoping for than Legendary, as I feel it is more centered around Tella's reckless love life. I'm very excited to start Finale nevertheless! I hope that this time, Scarlett and Tella play the game together, because I think Scarlett would be great at balancing out her recklessness throughout the game!

Martina Espriu I’ve read the first book and half of the second. The first one was great but the second one was a little bit boring.Should I finish it?

message 20: by Aspen (new) - rated it 1 star

Aspen Unpopular opinion, but I've never understood the hype around the Caraval trilogy, coming from someone who finished all 3 books (I hate leaving a series unfinished). I always felt that the characters were written in a way that made them more caricatures than compelling individuals and that the audience is spoken down to in terms of being convinced of their personalities - read "telling, not showing". For example, instead of a character being proven to be genuinely brave or fiery, the author outright states that that is the case or chooses to hammer the point over and over again, as if she doesn't trust her own writing to convey that.

Moreover, the writing style frustrated me because it clearly attempts to be poetic while not really understanding how to go about doing so (example "The air tasted like wonder. Like candied butterfly wings caught in sugared spiderwebs, and drunken peaches coated in luck.") It's a lot of fanciful nothingness.

Poor relationship development between characters; world-building is superficial. The one thing I'll give it is that the concept is interesting, but that just makes me wish a better author had written it.

Beatriz Rodriguez After having read the firts book and the comments here, I think I will go for the second and third part.

Claire Goehring I loved Caraval in my personal opinion but that might just be because 1. I had just gotten out of a reading slump and 2. because I love well built fantasy world like the Caraval world. I would definitely say that it is worth it to read Caraval.

Camille Honestly I liked it but I was not hooked and kept getting lost it was honestly pretty confusing and it just dragged on.

Juliet Yesss, I loved the caravel series, even more than ouabh
