Catherine (semi active) | 3067 comments Hi y'all! Ruth is 4 chapters long and Galatians is 6 chapters long. Here are some ways you can participate!

✿ Just read them at your own pace and share your thoughts with us!

Memorize verses

Here’s a list of verses I like from our BOTMs: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1e...

Choose 9 of them (or any other verses you’d like, from the list or not) to put in this bracket according to which number it is:

[ _ ] [ _ ] [ _ ]
[ _ ] [ _ ] [ _ ]
[ _ ] [ _ ] [ _ ]

When you memorize a verse, put an X in the bracket. Try to get 3 in a row, then another 3 in a row, then maybe even a blackout! Post your bracket here and update us on how you’re doing.

✿ Youversion plans

I’ll be doing these 3 Youversion plans:
~ Ruth: A God Who Redeems (starts Sunday, 8/4/24): https://bible.com/p/68029442/b4385e18...
~ Ruth Challenge (starts Sunday, 8/11/24): https://bible.com/p/68029462/c7162407...
~ Thru the Bible—Galatians (starts Sunday, 8/18/24): https://bible.com/p/68029473/b64c831e...

Please add me as a friend if you haven’t- I’m Catherine C and my profile’s the same as the one on GR, or you can tell me what your profile is. If you haven’t made a free account on Youversion yet, sign up HERE! https://www.bible.com/sign-up

✿ BibleProject Video

Here's a video overview of the book by BibleProject:
~ Galatians: https://bibleproject.com/explore/vide...
~ Ruth: https://bibleproject.com/explore/vide...

✿ Sermons

If you have your own sermon resource, please share it with me! I listen to Tim Keller & Gospel in Life. Gospel in Life has a really great series on Galatians. It’s really long, but feel no obligation to listen to all of it:) Here it is! https://gospelinlife.com/series/galat...

✿ Bible Commentary

I use Enduring Word: https://enduringword.com/

BibleRef, from the same people who did GotQuestions, is also good: https://www.bibleref.com/

If you have other resources, please share them with us! Thank you so much:)

Catherine (semi active) | 3067 comments I was reading Galatians 2:20 ("I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.") and wondering why it says "loved" instead of "loves." I checked Enduring Word, found something cool, and wanted to share it:

"g. Who loved me: Paul can confidently give himself to Jesus because of the love Jesus has demonstrated in the past. “It is true that he loves us now, but Paul also wrote truly, ‘Who loved me.’ The verb is in the past tense. Jesus loved me upon the cross; loved me in the manger of Bethlehem; loved me before ever the earth was. There never was a time when Jesus did not love his people.” (Spurgeon)

i. Loved… gave Himself: The past tense is important. William Newell, in his commentary on Romans, speaks to the importance of the past tense in the word loved. “It is this past tense gospel the devil hates… Let a preacher be continually saying, ‘God loves you, Christ loves you,’ and he and his congregation will by and by be losing sight of both their sinnerhood and of the substitutionary atonement of the cross, where the love of God and of Christ was once for all and supremely set forth.”

ii. “Did the Law ever love me? Did the Law ever sacrifice itself for me? Did the Law ever die for me? On the contrary, it accuses me, it frightens me, it drives me crazy. Somebody else saved me from the Law, from sin and death unto eternal life. That Somebody is the Son of God, to whom be praise and glory forever.” (Luther)"
