When Sam goes to see Marissa Springer to notify her of her husband’s death, the woman was obviously emotionally unwell. Did you get a sense of Sam being in any danger during that visit? What about when Marissa called and asked her to return? Were you ever concerned that Sam was out in the field on her own, without backup? Your thoughts about all that led her to going back to that house alone and not telling anyone where she was?

Judy (bigfootgal) | 29 comments I had no sense of threat from Marissa Springer at Sam's first visit, though I did think, as Sam acknowledged to herself that it was unwise of her to be in the field alone. I did think, especially since she was alone, but pretty all the time, she should keep her office aware of where she was and who she was seeing.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I didn't sense any danger from Marissa.

I knew the second visit was going to be a problem. It wouldn't be a Fatal book if Sam didn't do something stupid. As soon as she thought about backup, I was yelling at her.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments No, I didn't think that Marissa Springer was a threat at all. Nothing she did in the previous visit made me suspicious.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1803 comments I also did not sense any threat from Marissa.

Once again, Sam's actions prove that she is a mediocre cop. Her arrogance and misplaced self-assurance have gotten her into serious trouble more than once. When will she learn?

Absolutely agree! I knew it was going to be a problem and it turned out to be a really big problem. No partner. No backup. No one knew where she was. Her phone is so old it couldn't be tracked. What could possibly go wrong?
