Percy Jackson Book Club discussion

Hello! Sorry for being gone, I had absolutely no ideas. Thankfully, Noah suggested a deep dive about Grover and what if he hadn't existed (thank you again, Noah, for answering my cry for help).
Grover is one of the main characters of the "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" series. He is a 28-years-old [(in the first book), 24 in the Disney+ series] satyr, but looks like a teenager because satyrs age more slowly than humans.
He was formerly Thalia Grace's (and Annabeth Chase's and Luke Castellan's ) protector and, during Rick Riordan's first Greek mythology series, Percy Jackson's protector and best friend.
Not only is he part of the first trio we are introduced to, but he is also the searcher who has found Pan, the one who took the god's spirit in order to change the world.
But what if he hadn't existed?
Well, Percy wouldn't have made it to camp. Him and Sally would've left too late the cabin and the Minotaur would have killed them, Poseidon and Zeus would have wasted all their power by trying to destroy each other in the war and without Percy, Grover and Annabeth to stop him - Luke would have retrieved the Golden Fleece in the second book, allowing Kronos to take over while they were weak.
Pan wouldn't have survived much longer and after Kronos had taken the power and destroyed the world, his spirit would have been gone forever.

I think that a lot of people forget about Grover because he isn't an important character in the later series, but when we stop to think about it - he is the reason Percy made it to camp and was by his side during his first 5 years after he found out that he's a demigod.
What do you guys think?

i think i would cry if grover didn’t exist bc he is totally such a vibe and a third wheel (IN THE BEST WAY.) totally the comedic relief best formed and is totally amazing at his job.

actually i have just realised that there were a bunch of other satyrs at chb... so it would have been a luke kind of situation (there's a similar situation here ) i'll get back to it later!!

@charlie yess! and tbh he is still one of my favourite characters because he had so many funny lines (and he’s definitely grown on me since the disney+ series)

also i think people forget how important he actually IS. like if it weren’t for him… the book series might not even exist. he’s the one who talked to Chiron (mr. Brunner.) and he’s the one who helped percy in. percy wouldn’t even be alive tbh.

i have such a funny story with that song- I was re watching the show and that part was abt to come. My phone rings and I look to see it and it’s my cast list for the play I just auditioned for. I didn’t rly expect a big part so I was like I have to watch this part. Well I ended up watching it over and over again cus I was laughing so much. Then finally I check and turns out I got the lead. 😂

i love grover so much and i think aryan is literally the most underrated person on the pjo cast. like he brings grover to life so well!

my ringtone is literally "oH gOllY tHe RoAdS gEttINg bUmpY" and then i never pick up any calls because i want to hear the song

unrelated but there's a yt short where somebody asks charlie for his fav song and he starts singing grover's consenses song

Grover is (almost ) my favorite character!! He’s just too iconic 💗🤭

I felt bad for Grover in the latest PJO book bc he was third wheeled A LOT. Likeeeee Percy and Annabeth were kissing and saying ily right in front of Grover

also grover is such an important part in the series like he is literally the one who found pan even she people said he couldn’t and when he was barley in hoo i was sobbing i love him so much omg

same!! a lot of people say that he's not important or say that percy's best friend is jason or leo or whoever, but grover's right THERE

I didn’t really realize that when I was reading HoO, but now that you mention it that is really sad. In a way it just makes Grover’s presence in the Chalice of the Gods book that much more bittersweet.

exactly. reading chalice of the gods after hoo made me so happy bc i got my favorite satyr back 💗 IM SORRY BUT THE SCENE WHERE THE THREE OF THEN ARE ABOUT TO GO ON A QUEST .
