As a KC lover, it hurts me deeply that the movies have been canceled because there was not much interest in them as opposed to the Percy Series.

And the books are not that much talked about to, either.

Today we are going to explore why this series has flopped .

Average rating
The Kane Chronicles are Riordan's worst rated books with average ratings of:
- The Red Pyramid 4.10 stars
- The Throne of Fire 4.19 stars
- The Serpent's Shadow 4.28 stars

What people didn't like
While I was reading the negative reviews, trying to figure out what people didn't enjoy, I was surprised to see that the main characters were those who bothered people.
For those who have not yet read the books - Carter and Sadie are two siblings who have lived seperated for the past 6 years as their mother passed. Carter travelled the world with his American archeologist father, while Sadie grew up in London with her boring grandparents who are not so fond of her father.
What many people disliked was that they couldn't tell Sadie's and Carter's chapter apart because (without the British accent that disappears in the 2nd and 3rd book) they couldn't tell them apart as their characters were underdeveloped and their commentary in the brackets.
While I did tell their chapters apart and I enjoyed their bickering in the brackets.
[Seriously, it was the highlight of the chapter!]
I must agree, they were quite underdeveloped in the first book, but they are much more complex in the following books, making me feel really attached to them after getting to know them better.
Another thing people disliked and I didn't either (it's hidden because it's a spoiler, so do not press on it unless you've read all 3 books!!!) (view spoiler)

What people liked most
All the PJO/HOO references were A M A Z I N G!! Everyone seemed to enjoy them.
And the fact that Riordan tackled Egyptian mythology, a mythology not many people are acquainted with, despite being one of the oldest.

Conclusion
While I enjoyed the KC and I am still holding out hope that it will be picked up by Disney and it'll get the recognition it deserves, there are a few things that not all readers enjoyed and things that could've been done better like SPOILER AHEAD!! (view spoiler). But it was still an enjoyable series.

What do you guys think?

I have now found a new style for my deep dives and I fear I shall only write them with bold subtitles and spaces in between them from now on.

I love kc so much but i agree with everything you said.
I feel like it's sooo underrated, probably the most underrated series in the riordanvesrse
this was a great deep dive! <3

Sarah (standards raised bc of book boyfriends) | 179 comments I haven’t read them but my friend said that they are so slow and hard to read so I’m still debating on reading them

Noah B. | 88 comments The reason the accent disappeared in the second and third books is because it states early on in the book how Sadie was losing her accent because of being out of England. You can still catch parts of it.

Noah B. | 88 comments Yeah the books are pretty slow and hard to read

well it really depends on your specific tastes and preferences, but I really liked it! i think sadie and carter were the best narrators in the riordanverse and i found kc to be so funny. lmk if you decide to give the first book a try!

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

@sarah it depends on your taste. i for one really enjoyed them, but they’re not for everyone

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

thank you, paige<3

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

@noah yeah, i honestly had no issue with her accent disappearing, especially since you could still kind of see that it was still there, but there were so many people who were mad at this situation

Noah B. | 88 comments The second book was so sad 😞

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

i agree:(( the third one, too. i think that, even if some people dislike them, they are rick’s deep cuts and he truly polished his writing in them.

Sarah (standards raised bc of book boyfriends) | 179 comments Yea I get everyone is different but I’m one of those people where the book has to be exciting like most all the time or else I get bored (which also dosnt make me a fake reader bc I’ve been told that before)

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

of course you’re not a fake reader!!! all readers are valid. and yeah, maybe the kc won’t be for you because there are a lot of tomes when there’s no action, just anticipation

Who would say ur a fake reader? Literally anyone who reads books is a reader !!

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

exactly!!!

Royal | 83 comments For me I liked the books but it kinda felt like percy jackson, which isnt a bad thing just needed to go a diffrent way

message 24: by Noah (new)

Noah B. | 88 comments @Sarah I am the same way if a book doesn’t start quick enough or I haven’t read a series for long enough I get off the hook and find it very hard to read for a while.

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

@Royal to me they felt different, but I definitely understand where you come from!
