Can Ryle be given an another chance ?
Nivetha Nivetha Aug 11, 2024 09:43AM
I loved the basic characterisation of Ryle initially, so I eventually fell in love with the character. When you love someone some things can be forgiven, I am not saying to adjust the physical abuses but may be a chance to change him ?
Had any such thoughts ?
P.S : Just random thoughts

no

There would be no point in the book if she gave Ryle another chance. She is ending the cycle of abuse.

But neither did lily was so good she lied to him. She is also toxic. The only good character series is Atlas

please get help

Lily should have had clear communication with Ryle, but that wouldn’t have mattered because Ryle is an abusive person. No matter what, he would have found another reason to be abusive. So, Lily did the right thing—she broke the cycle. That was the core theme of the book: BREAKING THE CYCLE

NO. STOP DEFENDING RHYLE.

While I understand and agree that was for her safety, I still think Lily should have used a little communication with Ryle. She’s not an angel: she lied, omitted and even had feelings for Atlas while she was with Ryle, which was the trigger for Ryle being aggressive. FOR GODS SAKE, I’M NOT DEFENDING RYLE, but I think some serious communication could be used there and I blame Lily on that. I can’t even truly believe she loved him that much.

Absolutely not. I would prefer Lily follow her brain and not her heart in this situation

Lily did the right thing. This book highlights the very thing that perpetuates abuse. The want for someone to change. Lily made the right decision. No matter how much she wants him to change, no matter how many times he pleads that he will change, it won't. Sometimes a period of time can pass and all is well, but sooner or later it will reappear. The relationship could never be solid for them again.

No, not with her.
I believe everyone should receive a second chance, but a second chance at life. Not a redo button. Not Lily forgiving him again, getting back together and then hoping he doesn't hurt or rape her. But rather Ryle seeking professional help, learning how to process these emotions better and growing up. So the next time he's attracted to a girl, he doesn't run away because he knows he's capable of hurting her or stay with her and hurt her even more. But rather start fresh, changing himself, and learning how to love right. That is the second chance he needs, more than deserves.

he had plenty of chances 😭 no matter how many times someone will apologise, theyll do it again

No, definitely not. He did not deserve "another chance." Like the old adage says, "First time, shame on you... second time, shame on me." You can think people will change, but the past is the best indicator of what will happen in the future.

...I'm ashamed someone even thought about asking this question. I am no man's peace and I defenetly would never forgive Ryle or deal with half the shit he put her trough so the answer is: NO!

The way he was written, I cringed at first (who just kicks chairs on a roof, grow up??), then slowly fell in love (something about rich, powerful men begging and groveling gets to me lol), but the scene when he first pushes her legit knocked the air out of my lungs and gave me whiplash and I spent the rest of the book crying.
I really thought it was a one-time thing, having gone in blind, but the more the story went on, the more he scared me and the more I prayed for Lily to get out of the relationship.

I am personally grateful to never have experienced DV, but I think Colleen managed to get her point across if you're having such thoughts. While the conclusion is an unanimous "thank god she's made it out", I can see why someone would wish for him to change. Just like Lily loved him and had hope, I'm sure the readers also fell for him and held onto the same hope. Once he proved over and over that he cannot change (the magnet scene was 100% calculated and thought out, he can't blame that on blacking out), that's when I had fully dipped out and abandoned all hope. Long story short, I don't think he's capable of change, some people just refuse to and I'm convinced he's one of those people. I'm even a disappointed that he still gets to be in Emerson's life!

remember when he pushed her down the stairs? or the way he reacted to her journals or when he raped her.
did you read the book with your eye sockets closed?

Mind your words please. It's just a random thought as the author has initially described Ryle very well..
Read the other comments as well. It's just everyone sharing their thoughts as a discussion here.
You don't have right to question me. If you don't like the random thought just ignore it.

I definitely fell in love with Ryle at first but like Lily said at the end, how is she supposed to be able to trust him not to lose his temper with Emerson? He broke a lot of trust and there's no guarantee that he won't hurt Lily again. So no I don't think she should have to change him.
