Linda C (libladynylindac) | 1781 comments Vera Wong, 60 year old tea shop owner, discovers a body in her shop when she comes down from her upstairs apartment. She is sure it is murder. The cops don’t do anything that the TV shows do, and she feels they will not take the crime seriously. She enters an obituary in the paper about the location of the death and waits to see who shows up, assuming that the killer is amongst them. Four people show up, the victim’s widow and brother, and two people who the victim took advantage of. Gradually, in the process of guessing who did it, she makes friends with all of them.

Each chapter is written by one of these characters. All are flawed and have a reason to want the victim dead. Vera is controlling and self-assured. Her personality makes her humorous at times. Really liked her plowing ahead when she had no clue. Very enjoyable read.

Hannah | 3301 comments I really liked this one too, and I'm so happy that another book with Vera as the main characters is due to be published next year.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11080 comments I’m looking forward to this one. I wanted it earlier this year but the wait was too long, but I kept renewing the hold just in case.

Linda, have you noticed that there are a lot of books that keep popping up as possibilities for different tags this year? Ember in the Ashes fit at least 4 of them before this one.
