On The Same Page discussion

Join us for September, when we read a mystery/thriller. I've been told not to read too many reviews, as they give stuff away. Here's a brief blurb.

Beth, Portia, and Eddie Morgan haven't all been together in years. And for very good reasons—we'll get to those later. But when their wealthy grandfather dies and leaves a cryptic final message in his wake, the siblings and their respective partners must come together for a cross-country road trip to fulfill his final wish and—more importantly—secure their inheritance.

I just finished it. Wow. It was something. I'm always interested in books about road trips and this one had some very different places to visit. It was my first book by Samantha Downing, but it won't be my last.

I have one quibble about this book, but it was great fun. (view spoiler)[I didn't get how Krista could inherit the money. It sounds like the inheritance was contingent upon completing the road trip, and if that was true, nobody could prove to the lawyer that they did complete the trip. As a result, I'm not sure anyone was eligible for the money. Krista wasn't a blood relative. She might have been the beneficiary of Eddie, but he would have had to complete the road trip (which he didn't; he died in the desert) in order to be eligible to receive the inheritance. I'm also not sure about Alabama law - but since he died before distribution, I think the anti-lapse statutes generally provide for the children, but not the spouse of someone who dies before receiving the inheritance. I'm pretending Krista was pregnant at the end of the book in order for it all to make sense to me. I may be overthinking things. It wouldn't be the first time. :-) :-) :-) <\spoiler> (hide spoiler)]
