exactly! sally shaped percy as a strong man with morals and having gabe there showed him [percy] what weak and toxic masculinity leads to. i'll go more in depth tomorrow but gabe has had a very big influence on percys character as much as percy and we don't want to admit

Introduction
We will be analysing Smelly Gabe's character because tomorrow we will be deep diving into why PERCY IS SUCH A GREAT BOYFRIEND (cheers started chanting as we forget for a second that before we shall deep dive into that tomorrow we have to talk about Gabe today).
We can not delay it any longer
Gabe Ugliano (or should I say UGLYano?) was, as much as he was horrible, a very important character to the plot even long after he was out of the picture. Why? Because of how he created this trauma deep withing Percy, but especially Sally. I have already deep dived into the heartbreaking world of Sally Jackson and I've showed how Paul Blofis came into the picture with Shakespearean swordsman skills, but I have never addressed the elephant in the room. One of my few dislikes of the series and the few things I was pleasantly surprised when watching the Peter Johnson movies was Gabe's portrayal. While in the series he is simply a loser
and a sewer rat, in the movies we actually see his true colours (no, I can't believe that I actually complimented the movies, either). Obviously, the show and movies were made to appeal to different age ratings, but still.I digress, Smelly Gabe was, as our head mod, Ray, describes him best in the topic Percy's father figures" "ignorant, b3*r b3lly Gabe". He was @busiv3 towards Sally, in the first book it is mentioned that she flinched when she was next to him and cared about nothing than his games and his car.
As my very vast experience of psychological knowledge goes (therapy sessions because of anxiety and a semester of high school social studies), he had an underlying mental issue that caused him to act in this way and refuge himself in games and other things people shouldn't do! This could also be an effect of toxic masculinity that affects those of all genders, including men, because they aren't taught nor encouraged to be upfront with their emotions, ask for help, instead they are taught from a young age that they should assert their dominance over other genders and those weaker and younger.
Gabe's behaviour actually impacts Percy profoundly, and I'm going to elaborate that tomorrow in the Percy as a boyfriend deep dive.
Conclusion
All in all, Gabe is one of the main villains in Percy's life and his behaviour has affected Sally's and Percy's lives in the worst ways. While it is hard to talk about him, we must understand that he showcases Sally's bravery and why Percy turned out to have the morals that he does.
