If you're willing to ignore "an", An Unquiet Mind by Kay redfield Jamison is a great memoir of dealing with bipolar disorder when it was less well known. The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera was also really good. If you are a purist, Unaccustomed Earth by Jhumpa Lahiri
