Titus and his high school friends take a trip to the moon to visit some clubs and meet new people. All of them have had the "Feed" installed in their brains since they were born. It's a constant flow of the internet heavily fueled with consumerism. On the moon they meet Violet, a girl who did not have the feed installed until she was 7 which is causing some problems. As the teens party at a club a crazed man hacks into their feeds causing a major malfunction and sending the group to a hospital. All recover well except for Violet. Back on Earth she notices parts of her body beginning to lose all feeling and, unfortunately, the company behind the Feed is unwilling to make any repairs. Titus and Violet have become quite close but as he watches her life slowly ebb away he is not sure he is strong enough to support his friend.
At first I really disliked this book; it grew on me. The characters all seemed so shallow but this is actually all they had ever known. Consumerism rules their lives and competition to have the latest, greatest gadget or clothing is out of control. I also like the author's creation of an entirely new set of cool words for the teens to use; very imaginative. I'm glad I ended up liking this more than I thought I would.
