Our current series will wrap up at the end of next month (October 2024). That means it’s time to open nominations for our next series, which will start November 1, 2024. What would you like to read and discuss with the group? Nominations are now open! Please read the rules carefully so your nomination will not be disqualified!

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
Rules for nominating a series:
1. The series must be complete (as far as we can reasonably tell).
2. The series must be fantasy (I know, seems obvious).
3. The series should not be targeted mainly for middle school or a YA audience.
4. The series must not be one the group has already read. Look through the list of discussions or the group bookshelf to see if we’ve read it before.
5. Each member may nominate one series. Please tell us the name of the series, the author, how many books are in the series, and the name of first book in the series. If you want to add more information, please feel free.
6. Nominations do not need a second to move into the polling as long as they meet the other guidelines.
8. Nominations will be open through September 16. We will then have a poll. If there are a lot of nominations or the results are close, we will also have a run-off poll between or among the top vote-getters.

Please post nominations in this topic thread here on the group page, not by responding to the broadcast message sent to your Goodreads inbox.

Nominations are open! Let’s go!

Only a couple more days for nominations!

Nachiket | 19 comments I'll nominate The Watchmaker of Filigree Street duology (2 books) starting with The Watchmaker of Filigree Street. The premise sounds intriguing (and I also want to read a short series which I can finish this year).

Premise-
One cold November evening in 1883, telegraph operator Nathaniel Steepleton is disturbed by a late telegram to the Home Office: news of a bomb threat from Clan na Gael. Returning home early he finds the door ajar, his dishes washed and a small velvet box containing a gold pocket watch. These two incidents mark a beginning, whence the reader is drawn into a fantastic Victorian London.

The book, which is set in Victorian London, has been compared to both Sherlock Holmes and Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell.

It appears this series is ongoing and is up to 9 "main" books. Our first guideline states: "1. The series must be complete (as far as we can reasonably tell)." As much as I would like an excuse to dive into these books, I don't think I can accept this nomination (even though you specified only books 1-7, that would only be a partial series...).

Please feel free to nominate something else!

Jessica, thanks for the ideas. Please narrow your nominations to just one series. Thanks!
(Please note Rule #5: Each member may nominate one series.)

This duology has already been nominated by another group member, so it’s already on the list. Please feel free to nominate something else, if you’d like. (To see what has already been nominated, look at the first post in this topic thread. The nominations are listed at the end of that post.)

And I hate having to be the “nominations police” but I guess that’s part of the job of being moderator. 🤷🏻

Great. I will put the 9 book series in the nomination. If it wins, people can read as far as they like, but since our guideline is to read completed series, the nomination will include all 9 books.
