October Mini Challenge - Book Pairs With A Favorite Sweater

Have you seen the #bookstagram trend pairing book covers and spines with sweaters? That was the inspiration behind this prompt and we have a great photo on our Instagram as an example.

For this prompt, match a book to a favorite sweater (cardigan, jumper, pullover, hoodie, sweatshirt, etc! Something warm and cozy!) It could be a sweater hanging in your closet, owned by a friend or loved one, worn by a character in a TV series you love, hanging in a local shop, on your wish-list, etc. The possibilities are endless! Once you pick a sweater, pair a book to it and start reading!

Wait… How do I pair a book to a sweater?
This is an opportunity to get creative. It’s entirely up to you as to whether you think the book matches or not. Some examples of how to pair books to a sweater may include:

– Book spine or cover matches the color of the sweater
– Your favorite sweater is a little worn? Pick a well-loved book, a re-read, a used book, a comfort-read, etc!
– Have a brand new favorite sweater? Grab a new release!
– Does your favorite sweater remind you of a specific memory? Pick a book that matches those feelings or emotions.
– A book with a sweater on the cover
– A book with a sweater pattern on the cover (knit, wool, or fabric design, etc)
– A character who run or owns a clothing shop, or a character who knits sweaters or other clothing
– A book wearing a sweater (book sleeves!)
– The word “sweater,” “cardigan,” “jumper,” or “pullover” in the title.

Due to the creative nature of this prompt, there is no Goodreads List

Lisa | 11 comments Penny Reid has a series called 'Knitting in the City' and 2 books with Christmas sweaters on the cover if anyone wants a different choice. In s Texas, it's still in the 90s, so no sweater weather for me!

Also in Texas! It's sweater weather in my heart and mind, but sadly that does not translate well to the environment LOL.

Michele Olson | 517 comments I ended up listening to Unraveling: What I Learned About Life While Shearing Sheep, Dyeing Wool, and Making the World's Ugliest Sweater by Peggy Orenstein. If it were just about her efforts, it would have been a magazine article, but she also talks about environmental and social impact, history, and political opinion.

Mary Sue | 144 comments I read Murder at Lambswool Farm by Sally Goldenbaum. It’s a cozy mystery series that centres around a group of friends who get together in their local yarn shop. Murder at Lambswool Farm (A Seaside Knitters Mystery #11) by Sally Goldenbaum

DaNae | 89 comments At first I thought I should buy myself a new sweater and then find a matching book, but really it never gets cold enough in Utah any more to wear many sweaters. I have a favorite pullover which I thought was mostly brown, but upon closer inspection the variegated yarn ran black, grey, white and orange. I flipped through covers in my Libro library until I found this one, Cinderwitch. Such a perfect book for October.

Anna (annafrommontana) | 415 comments I read Washington Black. The cover is mostly black and white. One of my favorite sweaters is black and white stripes. It is not yet sweater weather here but soon I will be able to wear it.

Devika (youactlikeicare) | 172 comments I read Casting Spells by Barbara Bretton. Its about a magical town where the main character owns a yarn store and there is a sudden murder in it that brings the outside world in.

Aquaria | 286 comments BTS – Beyond the Story

The upper black-and-white stripes on the cover almost perfectly matches a sweater I own.

Too bad the book wasn't as good as some of the band members look...

Denise | 4 comments I am going to read The Castilians. It is an historical fiction set in Scotland, at St. Andrews in the 1500s. It matches a beloved cable knit sweater.

message 16: by Jen (new)

Jen | 88 comments I listened to An Elderly Lady Is Up to No Good by Helene Tursten The cover has cross stitch embroidery on it, which reminds me of my favourite Xmas jumper.

It was a darkly funny read, & I hope to read the other books in the series.

Beth | 139 comments I chose I Am a Fugitive from a Georgia Chain Gang! by Robert Elliott Burns; the beige on the cover is exactly the color of my favorite sweater.
