This challenge runs for the entire month of October! Read on for more details.
I was so disappointed last year when I realized it was October and I had completely forgotten to host the annual monster hunt! This is the third or fourth year I've hosted this challenge and I never get sick of it. It's such a simple premise but so much FUN! Since it's the month of October many of us will be overdosing on spooky or cozy reads and many of those books will have "monsters" in them. When I say monster what I mean is any creature or human that would be considered monstrous to the average human. Think vampires, werewolves, ghosts, zombies, dark fae, serial killers,.. etc.
The hunt works like this:
Choose a book and read it. Pretty easy first step, right?
Any type of "monster" that pops up will equal one monster "caught". For example, I'm reading a supernatural book about vampires and werewolves. So I can count each of those two types ONE time. Even if there is a whole coven of vamps you only get to count them once per book. I hope that is pretty simple.
Once you'v completed the book come back here and start a comment to track your catches. Your comment should look something like this:
Twilight (monsters found: Vampires, Werewolves)
🎃🎃
The pumpkins represent the two monster types, or points, you have collected for reading twilight. (I chose pumpkins because they stand out against the white background and it will make it easier for me to do the tally at the end). You will repeat the process of logging your books and monsters for each book you read by editing your original comment to add the books as you go.
The books must be linked for verification as there is a prize for the winner of this challenge.
I will accept any type of book with the exception of children's books. I love children's books and absolutely consider them valid BUT not many adults read them regularly and it would give an unfair advantage to the person who hypothetically gathered a hundred monsters in one day by reading a crap ton of children's book lol. I hope you all understand my reasoning regarding this point.
That being said, middle grade is still acceptable as are graphic novels & manga.
As I cannot physically verify that you are being honest when you enter your books I am confident enough in the fact that we are all good and honest people and will play fairly so go forth.... and HUNT!
